  • My newest good buy.

Ran into a lady getting divorced and was emptying out storage area and bought nine 5 shelf storage units for $180 ($20 each). Each unit is suppose to hold up to 600 lbs. That finishes outfitting my basement storage with a few units left over to go into the garage.

By getting all the can goods out of cabinets, it will be easier to maintain an inventory, make a shopping list (to use available coupons) and rotate goods.

The wife has been bugging me for more shelves for her stockpile, good quality ones are insanely pricey. Good catch barfife.

I've been looking into the rotator systems. and found one that is simple, easy to build, etc. The problem is that I live in an apartment, and don't really have a good place to put it. The idea is to be able to get to your food. I started with the totes you put in the closet, and quickly found the problem with them. To get to that can of chili, you have to haul EVERYTHING out of the closet, go into the very bottom tote, and take out that can, then put everything back! Yes, it sucked. With a rotator, you put the new in at the back and take the old out of the front. As you use, you replace. They just make sense. That's the main problem I have with shelving. I know I have stuff in the back of some of the kitchen cabinets that I haven't seen for three years....
