Sadly the USDA (as well as the FDA) have WAY TO MUCH power. I hope this family and the lawyers can work something out before they lose everything. OH, isn't there something about FEDERAL putting their hands on state controlled commerce? I mean, they did say they never sold across state lines. Seems to me big brother is once again putting his filthy hands into places it doesn't belong.

The SCOTUS has been chipping away at states rights using the Commerce clause since John Marshall was Chief Justice. IMO, the SCOTUS has exceeded their original scope of power by leaps and bounds.

One thing we do a couple times a year is to go to some of the local feed stores and trade young rabbits about 6 weeks for feed. Usually a while before Easter is a good time to try this. We put back a good amount of feed doing this.

We butcher the last of our meat bird chickens yesterday. We baked some of them last night. I still prefer rabbit over chicken :)

How do you keep your "just weaned" rabbits? I have babies that I need to move from their mother and need ideas for cages.

our operation is pretty small. I am just to busy to make any "real" money at it. I probably break even on the money we get from CL. But the skills and know how for me and the kids is immeasurable!!! tax that Uncle Sugar!!!!

This is one of two rabbit hatcheries in our group. This is only the 4th litter, but as you can see....it is about butchering time. Here is also how much meat we get from each rabbit. Boiled for 2.5 hours so the meat falls off the bone.

I keep the babies with the mother until she is about a week away from having her next liter. Then I move the babies down to an open hutch (max 4 buns per hutch) and by the time they are 3 months old they are ready for the dinner plate :)

All our hutches are exactly the same so when one gets too chewed on we can replace a side/roof/divider easily. But my breeders get a 2x3 cage with their liter till the liter is about 5-6 weeks old, then I move the liter to others for grow out.
