  • Syngas The homesteaders dream come true.

    Hello all,
"Syngas" is also called "Wood Gas"which is obtained by baking the carbon and methane gas out of the wood. This can be done with a "Wood Gasifier" You can run almost any combustion engine on Syngas.
Here is the document that FEMA put out years ago for farmers to run there tractors on, if there was a fuel shortage.
    FEMA Wood gas .pdf

Do some searches on youtube and you will find a few people that have built and even modified wood gasifiers and show running engines.

    Enjoy!

Yes they did make a crude version on The Colony. I'm sure it put out allot of tar, but it did work...
I hope they run that show a second season. I have the first season saved. ;) This is a good alternative in case of a fuel shortage.

I'm dissapointed in the knowledge of syngas shared here. There seems to be more supporters of diesel engines than alternative fuels for internal combustion. Diesel has a substantially greater storage life than gasoline but have you ever made diesel fuel? I have and the requirements will triple your crop production. I'm not a fan of bio diesel because the cause and effect is that food cost will increase substantialy.

I have a generator similair to that seen on "the colony" and have been working on a system to fuel my 93 bronco BOV. I look forward to sharing both because they are so simple.

Sorry to disappoint but i dunno squat about it. Not one of my strong areas but always willing to learn. There are some here also that dont have wood to burn in their regions. I can honestly say i've never made any fuel and when/if it goes down i'll be walkin unless i can learn and/or obtain what it takes because i'm just a go fill up the gas tank guy as of right now and i dont have anything special. I'd also like to hear an honest opinion on why if it's as easy as some youtubers make it to be then why hasnt it caught on?
Looking forward to your postings on it.
