  • National Forests

So I was reading some back threads and someone mentioned briefly that if the SHTF national forests would not be an ideal place to be. (Just camping areas or all of it?) Well, I live in a national forest. I feel safe and secluded (for now). I was considering purchasing more acreage in or adjoining this national forest for our BOL. I'm now thinking it's not a good idea. Ya'll know more than me, what's ya'll's thoughts?

I've got so much to learn!!

I'm thinking about buying some land that is right near a large national forest. I like that there is a large area with no building, etc. I think of a large secluded area like that, especially with wildlife that hasn't been hunted, and other such things as a really good thing. I might be missing something also. Maybe the thought is that people will come and try to camp/live there. Maybe if it is government SHTF type stuff, the government could use it as a staging area. Hopefully someone else responds because I think of it as a good thing not a bad one.

I think its a great idea having land adjoining a state/national forest. It's like owning thousands of acres and you know that there will never be houses built on it........... unless we really have the SHTF bad then there will be poachers and probably squatters.

I think that’s the main problem people have with the idea, to be honest though I don’t think it will be so much of an issue in the U.S.A.

Over here in the U.K they are really better off avoided like the plague in a SHTF scenario.

As a friend of mine once put it:

‘’In places like the Lake District, The New Forest and Forest of Dean you won’t be able to move for all the 'wanna be survivalists' with crossbows’’
