    Batteries

Let me start out by saying, you will appreciate the amount of power the electric company supplies to your homestead after you read the information in this article and attempt to supply your own power.

My thoughts of a good home power station is to have 2 banks of batteries "Alternating Charge and use between the 2 banks" as the main source of power.

    How many batteries?

Let me use an ****ogy for a sustainable battery system. Of course the amount of power consumption will vary from Homestead to Homestead.

Lets say electric power is water. If you take a cup of water out of a gallon jug you would already be getting low on water. But if you take a cup of water from a swimming pool, you would not notice the level reduced. So first you must figure out your consumption at a comfortable rate. Then figure in the maximum amount of drain said battery bank can sustain with out damaging the batteries. This is usually about 50% of the batteries capacity. So if you needed 10 kilowatts or 10,000 watts per 24 hour period and you need to stay 50% above the capacity you would need a battery bank that holds 20,000 watts.

So you need twice the amount the batteries can hold. This would be per bank. With the banks alternating the charge cycle this gives you 24 hours to replenish the electricity. Using 3 or even 4 banks extends your charging time. The longer your charging time, the less power per hour is needed to replenish. This means on a Homestead battery system you can generate your own power on proven technology and sustain the home off the grid.
