  • Cleaning Rusted Cast Iron [video]

Tam takes a thoroughly rusted (really this one is ruined) cast iron pan and shows how to restore it to a usable state. This is a great video for those of you who hate to throw anything out!
    part 1

    part 2
Tam finishes the cleaning process and reseasons the pan. For a finale she fries an egg to test her work!

beast12101 on youtube does a great side by side review of many different methods including Naval-jelly, and oven cleaner.
Hands down the one that won was to submerse the object in vinegar for a few days and then rinse of to a chrome like finish. Shocking results.

My personal preferences, especially with all the speculation about Alzheimer's disease would be to not use the crumpled up ball of aluminum foil as a scrubber. I am sure that some of it is getting scratched off and embedded in the pan on a microscopic level.

Great video. I have an old corn ear shaped cornbread pan. It's very old and I can't wait to use this method. Thanks foxfire.
