  • Building a greenhouse- all the uses?

Helping a friend build a greenhouse right now and planning to do the same on my end once his is done.

Trying to think through every possible usage of the greenhouse for homesteading/survival purposes. To be honest, where we are at, it's likely at best a 2 season use category given our insanely hot summers/late springs.

Kinda of already set with plans, wood framing, polycarbonate panels for walls, 4/12 pitched roof going to gutters to collect rainwater for usage.

Thinking I will run black flexible pipe in the rafter area to get another alternative hot water source if need be.

Outside of the obvious- growing plants, starting seeds, etc. what other uses can we/should we plan for in the greenhouse? Hot, humid area over 1/2 the year. Alternative energy not a problem so small electric projects aren't a problem. Size will be roughly 12x24.

I see people up north putting jacuzzis in them. Have no want to do that, owned one for years and jacuzzis are a PITA IMO. Now a dry sauna is another thing altogether, that would be neat.

Other uses??? Drying meat maybe? What's your thoughts?

    i'm jealous.
we have a small one.. it has turned into a storage shed for tools/fertilizer/etc...

as with any structure... you'll wish you had built it bigger!!

My small greenhouse became storage for garden fertilizers, organic pesticides, and tools. One of the racks failed and split. It all needs to go in the trash. The whole garden area needs to be ripped out and relocated somewhere that's not in the blazing sun all day. I may have to go back to just grow bags instead of raised beds.

I like grow bags, , they definately have a place.

But for multiyear, a pvc pipe greenhouse like mark in michigan built really works well.
i'm not there yet but I's still finding components.
