Alas, Babylon has a lot to say regarding survival after a nuclear attack with radiation fallout. It is a classic survivalist story set in Florida. I LOVE this book!
I have just started reading a series of four novels about life after an EMP attack. The title of the 1st book in the series is Last Light, by Terri Blackstock. The story is set 16 miles East of Birmingham, AL. It is similar to One Second After because it revolves around one main family, their lack of preparation, and their struggle to retain their Christian values while trying to survive in the face of extreme hardship. This series is teaching me a lot about what I should store in my pantry and is making me aware of things I had not considered will happen after the lights go out. The main character is a husband and father who learns what is really important in life. Men and women will enjoy this story.

Found a used 80's copy at Abe Books. Very good book. Definately seems to transcend modern tech since in the PAW there realy isn't any. Highly recommended to get people thinking.

Alas Babylon has been one of my favorite survival books. I grew up in Orlando and remember the B-52s flying overhead as well as the radio and TV stations mentioned. It always brings back memories when I read it.
