I am greatly saddened by this whole affair. Firstly, the private who released the dokuments should be tried for treason. Secondly, why the heck did he have access to so much? Why should anyone need that degree of access save the folks at the top?
As for Juliene Assange, in my opinion he's a terrorist. This isn't journalism in any way. If it's about a certain story you would release dokuments pertaining to that story, not all of the dokuments. Is it some form of first amendment issue? For matters like planning for roads, budgets or planning for the future, much of that should be transparent and open anyway, so no problem. But when it includes dokuments about the identity of those cooperating with our armed forces, state department internal communications etc - that should not be open to all.
I am disgusted on so many fronts with all of this.
With a sloppy, oversize government unfit to run a lemonade stand.
With a disgruntled private who should never see the light of day again.....at best
With a bitter and hateful Julliene Assange who should be hunted down and prosecuted
With the interminable head scratching from the powers that be, unable to figure out what to do other than complain.
With news agencies/TV talking heads who sing praises of the open information available to all.
Put politics to the side. We all see the bloated government, terrible representatives, insurmountable debt etc. We all know and live the misery no matter your beliefs, trapped amidst their ill advised, self serving political shenanigans. Whether Liberal, Conservative, Independent, Democrat, Republican or Tea Party, this is just plain wrong.
If I saw someone publicly release internal dokuments from a large company so other companies could gather that information, I would call it wrong. If I saw someone taking all of a family's personal papers and dokuments and give it to anyone, I would know it's wrong. And seeing this, it's beyond wrong.
We look, though my eyes at least, utterly incompetent and weak as a nation due to this. Plug the leaks, prosecute the private and zip the foul lips of Assange.
