  • Black Friday

I've been watching the news about all the crazy shoppers out on black Friday. First of all I'm amazed every year at what some people will do to buy the latest and greatest gifts. They remind me of animals.

This year I made a decision to spend a much smaller amount. I've been wanting to do it for years, but didn't want to be considered "a tight wad". It just seems to me that all this commercial Christmas hype is demeaning to the real purpose of Christmas.

So, with the excuse of a recently layed off husband, I bought less expensive gifts. I feel so liberated! I sometimes wish that except for children, gift giving for adults be omitted. There was no stress over the budget, no hunting and hunting for the perfect gift - it's wonderful!!

Wish I'd done this years ago!

What those folks did in the name of CHRISTmas was unreal. If they are willing to trample, kill, maim or injure over a game or computer imagine what they will do for food or water. Sales are nice but life is precious and easily lost or taken. I am disappointed in Americans and their zombie hoard behavior. I am glad I do not live among those type of folks at least for now.

Anytime some PollyAnna comes with a "my neighbors 10 feet away in my subdivision will all be good citizens and starve quietly when something happens" fantasy, I remind them of Black Friday.

If people are going to trample, maim, etc. over X box games, etc. What are they gonna do over YOUR food?

        Well said lowdown3.

My kids are still young but we keep back some gifts from their birthday and re-wrap them for Christmas. We also take some toys from their huge pile and wrap those and let them open them up. Fortunately my kids are 14 months and 3 yrs old. Gotta train them early about this stuff. We have the excuse that our family is too large, parents are divorced, so we only buy for our parents (6), we don't buy for step-siblings nor siblings (would be 8) nor their kids (4). We do make cookie plates, lots of fun and made with love.
