  • Worst Thanksgiving Dinner Ever

Hey all! I hope you had a great Thanksgiving Dinner.

I sure did not. Being down in Texas away from family, wife wanted to just go out to eat to make it simpler. We went to Marie Callendar's. Because it was Thanksgiving, they only offered two choices: Turkey plate or Ham plate.

OK, so I ordered the Ham plate. It came with veggies and a piece of pie, for $20. WOW $20 per plate, ok so I am guessing a huge serving right!?!? NOPE ONE slice of ham, cut in half and layed ontop of itself for two small pieces of ham. Broccolli was the veggie YUCK. How do you serve the LEAST favorite vegetable of all the vegetables? Oh, and one scoop of the worst mashed potatoes in history (it was HARD-can you say precooked and staged for the last 2 or 3 hours) and one scoop of some very bland sweet potatoes. That is it!! So I am getting kind of pissed already.

Now Marie Callendar's is famous for their pies, so I am now looking forward to picking which kind of pie I want. NOPE Thanksgiving we only serve Apple or Pumpkin, unless you would like to purchase a slice of pie for an additional cost. OMG!!!

So we took the apple pie, and it was OK, not their normal great pie. Then we get the check. ARE YOU KIDDING ME $3 for a glass of lemonade.

So I left, after eating only one piece of ham, didn't touch the rest of the food it was that gross. Ate my pie, and finished off my glass of lemonade.

Paid $50 (wife and mine)... proceeded out the door, and drove down the interstate 3 miles to McDonald's and bought me a burger combo. After all, it is almost a sin NOT to get full on Thanksgiving.

So So So disappointed... and to think we had to wait 20 minutes for a seat.

Marie Callendar's definitely just went to my never go there again list...

Yeah that sucks buddy. Been at work out of town going on ten weeks now. At least I got some pretty good food today though. Hope the rest of the day turns up for you. Happy Thanksgiving.

That blows dude. We had pizza.!! We are having Thanksgiving dinner on Saturday. That way we can share with the kids and their children. This will be our first dinner with the turkey raised by us.

We raised it from a chick and when all was said and done it weighed 26 lbs 4 oz.

Yeah that totally sucks. If you were in GA and close, I would definitely bring you and the wife a plate because I have had so much food I just gave birth.....

Reminds me of a Valentine's Day dinner we had years ago. A place called "Buffalos" something or another- a franchised quasi Applebees type place IIRC.

The wife rarely complains about food when we are out- I usually do that enough to cover it for the both of us. So the service sucked, the food was atrocious but we were sitting there trying to make the best of it. I'm holding my tongue cause I "always complain about the food when we eat out" or so I'm told ;) and it's Valentines day and all that.

So she looks at me all sheepishly and says "this really is awful!" We both bust out laughing.

So one of the managers that walk around and look for the HAPPY looking people to ask how their dinner is- they pass by the people that are pissed off looking- walks up. I guess because we were laughing about how bad the meal was, he figured we were enjoying it.

"How's the meal tonite folks" (he probably said something like "Hi I'm Todd" first, I don't remember)

The wife stops laughing and gives me this "oh crap, he's gonna unload on them" look.

I look right at Todd, I smile and say "the powdered potatoes were BREATHTAKING!" as seriously as I could.

Todd stands there for a second speechless and then goes "aahh ok well thank you."

We laughed about that half the way home.

Sounds about like mine. My in-laws like to gather in the living room and watch (and I mean WATCH, no talking) the parade. Then after that there is always the American Kennel Club dog show on. They made enough food for 8 or 10 people, however, there were closer to 20. Everyone seems to remember to go and buy a pie(there were like 6 or 7 pies), and everyone seems to forget I can't have any sugar!!!! You would think I would learn my lesson after 8 or 9 years, but noooo, not me. Hope everyone has a little bit better one than me.

Man, those Muslims sure are worried about what they eat. I went over there and all I heard was Alohaaaaa Snack-bar.

for the first time in probably 30 years, I did not cook and serve up a feast for friends and family.

Wife and I had a small Turkey breast, sweet potatoes, green beans, apple sauce and home made bread. No dessert. The meal was great, and just being with my wife was a treat for a change.

I LOVE cooking for the holidays. However, this year we went to the Marriott Thanksgiving Buffet. It was absolutely delicious. However, we had no left over turkey for sandwiches, no left over dressing & gravy, no left over pies or cakes. Left overs are the BEST part.

I plan to be in Florida by Christmas around my entire family for Christmas. I will cook, as usual. And enjoy every single minute of it!!!
