Thank you to all that served. I was lucky in my 23 years in the Air Force, Egypt, Rwanda, Turkey, Desert Storm, some really awesome arm pits in the world. I wish I could do it all again, especially the young part!! LOL

Everyday I remember some friends that never made it back, and I appreciate them and the memories

I thought I would share this with the forum (you guys are the closest thing this hermit has to friends-hehe)...

Received a homemade Veteran's Card in the mail today from my Grandparents (not sure why it was late??).
Enclosed inside a generic white envelope was a second envelope with a picture of a large US Flag waving on the front,
it was addressed to Our Grandson, Our Hero

The card said in part: While exercising the Freedom of Information Act, we discovered a check our grandson wrote many years ago. It was not because he was forced to. He did not do it for the money, for we remember our visit one summer and all he had was macaroni & cheese and franks at home. He did it for strangers, family, and friends alike. He did it, because he was raised by good parents, who taught him what is right and wrong. He did it, because he is one of the many men that would give their lives to protect a stranger that called themselves a fellow American. Thank you for your service. Enclosed is a copy of your check, please keep it somewhere safe.

Inside was a computer generated check:
Payable to The United States of America
For the amount Upto and Including My Life

        ********
Now my Grandfather passed away many years ago, and my grandmother, through habit or just plain old love, still signs every holiday card and birthday card as if my Grandfather was sitting right next to her helping her fill them out.

This is what I miss most of all on Thanksgiving Day. The giant family gathering at my Grandparents. The spread of food spanning 20 feet of tabletop. Uncle Randy getting stumble down drunk, Grandpa and Dad cheering the football game, and through all this chaos, the seconds of almost complete silence that start every prayer before family dinner.

Happy Thanksgiving Guys! May you all have delicious dinner this Thursday Eve!

1Admin, I would consider it an honor if you would add veteran to my handle also. I was US Army, 1967-1970. Did time after training with the Field Artillery at Fort Carson, Colorado. Volunteered for Vietnam and served with a Support Battalion with the 5th Infantry Division.
