why go back to work! ??

why should the furloughed go back to work?

met some long time friends last week. caught up on stuff...

he is excited about going back to work... that's the kind of character he has.

however... here's his story.
he got furloughed (sp?)
then got his first unemployment check for more money than i realized they paid..
i'm going to give made up numbers because i forgot his details.. $300... and a card that shows the deposit to his account. then he got $600 extra... he thought that was his big stimulus check. nope...
cause he got 300 the next week and another 600. and his stimulus check came in ?1000? or 1200? i forgot.
then the next week he got another 300 and another 600...

he's getting 900 a week. ...

he looks at me and said.. "why would someone want to go back to work? with this kind of money coming in.. and a lots of folks are doing a little side work"

in friends case, he is anxious to get back to work... but, socialism benefits are not going to be beneficial to the country in my humble opinion...

hmm. maybe the gov't is making a mistake... and they are getting ready to grab some of friends money back from him? and his story is not normal?

The $600 is federal covid-related unemployment, which in some cases will be an incentive to stay off work. It is only a 4-month extra payment, and I believe it expires in July. Then everyone will be eager to go back to work. My daughter in NYS has still been unable to file her unemployment claim, so she's getting nothing.

and we have Bernie pushing a bill for $2000/month for almost everyone....

oh, and we are having the same problem rr, our staff is happy with the extra $600/week on top of the unemployment ($275/week). Problem that they may have is the office manager has to report that they have denied their job back. Which will mean they could lose their unemployment check, but could continue the $600 check, which for some may work. However they are being told we are not waiting until the $600 runs out, as we need staff, so we will hire new people. We are not holding their position.

It looks like Republicans, including the President, are ready to take a handout pause - good!! Pressure is building on all states to get businesses reopened in a safe and logical manner, and get people back to work. With no bailouts on the immediate horizon, states won't have a lot of choice. Yes, they will point fingers and assign blame as there will be more deaths, but without state sales tax and, for some states, state income tax, their treasuries are going to run dry.

Most people I know who are "locked out" of work are very eager to go back. There is a sense of purpose and self-worth that comes with working; nobody gets that from a handout. Health vs Economy - we can do both if we do it intelligently.
