  • My husband and one of his co-workers were both very sick for about 2 weeks in December. They were talking today and wonder if what they had was coronavirus instead of the flu. Neither of them went to the doctor and both took antibiotics they had at home. Once antibody testing becomes available, I told my husband to get tested. I never get sick so I'm sure I've had nothing.

I suspect we'll start to see rolling reopening of businesses. We won't see the end of "social distancing" and precautions anytime soon, but I would like to see the economy get rolling again so people don't need to be dependent on the gubmint to pay their bills. I've read that Albany GA was hard hit, and places like NYC, Miami, NOLA, and Detroit will be bringing up the rear for the end of stay-at-home. People were never meant to live like that...

Here is an article that talks about what "reopening" could look like. https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/we...nd/ar-BB12rLtc

In Colorado, it's 0.0004% and also shut down the whole dang state.
I think it's manufactured hysteria and it's working.

Forgot to say: with hysteria comes CONTROL !!!! imagine that, <grin>

Oh, I don't believe squat coming from MSN but that's just me.

          • Oh, I don't believe squat coming from MSN but that's just me.
The medical "experts" (I am seriously questioning Fauci and Birx after their ridiculously over-inflated models) and all of the MSM, both groups of which have a vested interest in bringing the country to its economic knees to influence the November elections. I think Gov. Abbott has the right idea - lay out the conditions to start reopening the economy, then formulate and execute a plan as soon as possible. While the ongoing new cases and deaths are more than disturbing, we can't kill the country in the effort to control the virus. There appear to be at least 2 anecdotally acceptable treatments to lessen the symptoms of the Wuhan V; Remdisivir and hydroxychloroquine/Azithromycin+zinc. Ventilators seem to be the last step before the death sentence. Pfizer also has something new that they think is a viable treatment. The vaccine is a long way off, but finding viable therapeutics is the key to getting this country back to work.

In the meantime, my husband is not enjoying his company shutdown, as he is now stuck at home with me 24/7 and is considering delaying his retirement until later this year. At least he can collect unemployment in the interim. It's scant comfort to him for being home with me ;)

            • SO the real question now is the economy. Can it actually recover? My company is construction (so somehow essential) and we are down to 4 days a week at the plants and the entire company took 20% pay cut on Friday. Voluntary layoffs first and then regular layoff should start next week. 401k matching...gone. Alot of cost cutting measures trying to keep the business alive. I have been working from home for about 4 weeks now. I think ALOT of companies are in the same state. A friend of mine works in NASCAR and they are going to get paid till the end of the month, but with no season on the horizon for the teams, there isnt a reason to keep going. a lot of nascar teams have started to make Masks and Faceshields for the local hospitals using their 3D printing tech, but that aint enough to keep the business up considering those are being "donated".

Add in some random money printing and handing out by the GOV and we are looking at hyper inflation as they attempt to "stimulate" an economy that is tanking big time. Stock Market is a toy by the billionaires so if the nation can turn it around and get back to work within a month or so then the ship can be righted and we can get out of this with a 2008 style recession. But it this lingers on then we might be looking at a 1929 style depression. And the would probably lead to civil unrest. A lot of it.

As to the money the Gov is handing out...I sure will take it since they are giving it away, but ... I think that is a bad idea from the Gumint.

The good news...I had a lot of time to go through my Food storage and some stuff that I put in boxes in 2010 are still as good as when I put it in there. I have a couple of flats of Tuna that got shifted to the back behind some other stuff (28 cans) with date of 2013 "use by" and while tempting to try...I might just replace with that stimulus check. Oh yeah...I am middle class so I probably wont get any of that money. :)

              • new york showing increased deaths.

an associate many states away. has told me that the death count is much higher than being reported.

                Comment

                • If people who died weren't tested, then it's impossible to assign the cause to the virus. People still die every day from heart attacks, effects of diabetes, cancer, flu, etc. What is the financial benefit of an unproven increase in the number of virus deaths?

                  • from my associates comment that i relayed... he would be in position to know...so in that event.. yes.. corona related..
i have no reference or idea about new york
                    --
a great question about "financial benefit" i've wondered the same thing... the best i can come up with is that this may generate more federal money spent in new york... for goods which they can hoard, or buildings built with fed. money. or higher pay for local officials, providers etc..

and generate more room to complain about trump and republican leadership and raise his shouting voice more for pro democratic causes.

                    • MEDICARE
Every patient admitted for COVID related gets the hospital $13,000
Every one that gets a ventilator, the hospital gets $39,000

                      That explains a LOT

Stats show we don't have ANY deaths from the seasonal flu this year. LMAO

                          • SO a good friend of mine that I coached youth football for a long time with got the dreaded covid-19. He was a Div1 football player (played for air force 15 years ago) and still is a very fit fellow. He is also a pilot and that is where he suspects he got the virus. Was on a redeye through Atlanta, starting feeling bad. Checked into a hotel to sleep it off and hopefully feel better in the morning. He didnt. 23 days later and 6 days on a ventilator he pulled through. He is 6'2 and weighed 230 before and 195 after. He felt like his body had been doing 3 a day football practices for a month. everything hurt. Walking into his house last week he looked like a broken man. I have never heard of anyone that had the flu need to be hospitalized for 14 days and on a vent for 6 days. The man was in a triathlon 4 months ago and did very well with ZERO preexisting or underlying conditions. But right now he is still on oxygen over a month after getting the virus. This is not a fake news item. Covid has the potential to kick you in the berries and doesnt let go. Seeing a person that is a stud like that get so jackedup will curb your "we are a nation of sheep" commentary. Yes mistakes have been made. Yes the media is loving it. Yes the gov is screwing this up (but when do they not). But this is not a sickness that you want to have and is to be taken very seriously.

                              • If the info regarding your friends death was pointed at me, I will include him in my prayers tonight.

In my post above I didn't say or infer the COVID flu/flu wasn't going to result in deaths.

Of course, in any years influenza, many people will die, they always do.

A recent example is the 2018 flu where we lost 83,000+ people to the flu.
Still that wasn't as bad as Ike's 1957 flu which was only second in deaths to the 1918 flu.
And Ike didn't shut down the country.

My inferred point was I see entire reaction to this is overblown.
Simple precautions such as wash hands, wear a mask when outside would have been sufficient.

When I look at the damage to the economy and jobs, it's beyond tremendous. We've permanently lost one of our 5 companies we spend years building and it won't come back. That alone is 105 jobs that are gone forever and every one of those employees had familes.

And the panic pushed hard by every media makes the panic sustained and increased.

There is no value in their reporting "tested positive for covid" since they have tested less than 2% of the entire country and until they do test a significant portion of the country, the numbers reported are only useful for scaring people.

And as for the dead due to covid, that number has no significant value either since the hospitals are reporting flu deaths, heart attack or any cause of death the might be related to covid as a covid death. Of course they are only following the dictum of the CDC that told them to do that.

I expect the actual covid deaths are 1/2 of what's reported.

So as a business man, I look at 733 jobs lost for every covid death and if it's as I suspect, it's 1600 jobs for every covid death. That's 1600 families with no income. Nationally, that's a lot of people.
Here in Colorado, we've lost 7800 jobs for every covid death in Colorado.

To me this feels like this entire shutdown is an over reaction and poorly handled.
Maybe if I spent my entire life in NYC, I'd see it differently but fortunately, I don't.
