  • EMP?

There was an interesting article on zerohedge a couple of days ago questioning the reality of EMPs as a viable pepper threat.

ZeroHedge - On a long enough timeline, the survival rate for everyone drops to zero

A lot of the info comes from Lew Rockwell, if you trust his site as a good source.

Some now completely dismiss EMP as a potential threat- I'm not in that camp.

The effects were accidentally discovered during an actual nuclear test. Then later "computer models" in the congressional report say blah blah blah.... and that's considered gospel.

YES I realize virtually no real nuclear testing has gone on for quite a while now, but still. '

I'm not investing in a 1960's Ford truck with points, but I am keeping radios, seismics, thermal and NV in ammo cans.

I'm not "waiting" to put out any solar panels, but I do have some backup panels that are in storage and if any of our in use system is damaged I will be able to cobble together something that will work- to include two extra inverter chargers and a couple C40 controllers kept in large metal military containers.

While we are "invested" in Night vision and train with it regularly, we also spend a lot of time practicing at night WITHOUT NODS on the off chance that EMP knocks them out- highly unlikely as they are packed in ammo cans when not specifically out training with them. Ditto for our thermal units.

While most likely NOT an issue, we focused more towards Trijicon ACOGs that do not require batteries and have no electronics in them (dual illumination) versus investing heavily into electronic sights. I HIGHLY DOUBT any electronic sight would be fried via EMP unless relatively close, but who knows. Given that most people's "fighting arms" are SAFE QUEENS anyways, they are most likely protected via the metal gunsafe.

I always found it odd that there is little or no 'real' empirical data with regards to EMP and electronics. All sorts of conjecture, but no definitive tests.
