Finished up 14 years of homeschooling recently and my son has been helping other family members and making some side cash before college starts in the fall. Recently we helped with an eviction at some extended family's rental property.
The people were typical Amerikant white trash, paid about a month's rent and then tried to screw an old lady. Always the sad stories but no money. Got 5 kids, lazy wife that is home all day but obviously from the looks of the house isn't doing crap. Recently had another baby, words of the crappy father- "we thought she couldn't have no mo' babies and then this one just popped out and we had to go to the hospital..." I went and tried to assist in picking up payment, got ignored also. Eviction filed, served. Wait 7 days then po po's come out with us to toss them.
I knew exactly what we were going to be facing and since some of the others helping with the eviction are semi- soft soaps, I wanted them to be ready in their minds for the drama. Sure enough.. Knock on door, see dirty azz toddler with nothing on but swollen diaper ambling around. I say to the deputy- people in there, and I back away from the door. Momma opens door, they explain what's going on. She replies-
"We has 7 more days to file an argument, then 30 days more to stay.."
Sheriff explains "No ma'am your last day to contest was yesterday, you got to get out now."
Blah blah blah, I walk off. Immediately after they tell her she's wrong and has to go, she goes and picks up the new baby, comes back to the door with baby in hand and two dirty unkept rug rats under foot and starts crying.
I'm walking around in the driveway, looking at the sky, checking my phone, etc. Deputy says "aaahhhh, she says they didn't know about this and asks can you give them another day?" (To further trash the place? Hell no) I tell him no that's utter BS, husband called relatives last night asking how long they had and was told sheriff would be out in morning. Eviction starts. Utter insanity in the house, she doesn't know where one of the kids even is! Pieces of week old chicken, soiled diapers on floors, backside of TV stands, etc. More clothes on floor than in dressers. More flies in the kitchen than I've seen around poop in the desert.
Bottom line, we got them out. Later that day the boy and I were heading to combatives class and I explained how POS like those people use SOCIAL NORMS to their advantage. Only a bad person would throw out a mom with kids right? What terrible ba$tards we are right??! We should have let them live there for free for another couple months while they further trashed the place. The woman argued at first with the sheriff cause the retards thought they were correct on the time frame, then when the reality set in, she used social norms to try to get a little more out of the situation.
Sometimes you have to not care what you "look like" in order to get a situation taken care of.
People will be using these social norms to get what they want out of you when something happens-
"But we went to church together"- reality, this is probably someone you saw one time at your church when they were offering something free.
"I thought you were a CHRISTIAN!"- there is the big one wheezey! Lots of well intention people will be falling for that one. God forbid we not give some slug everything we have in order to make ourselves look better.
"Ya'll obviously have enough" or the flip side of that "we weren't as fortunate as you all were".
We only talk about the lone stranger coming up to your perimeter begging and fantasize about responses. The reality is it will likely be someone you KNOW or have seen around, and they WILL USE THAT against you.
I know, your a hard A (so you think), but what about your wife or kids? Are they going to try to circumvent you on this? "Oh come on, we have more than enough, we could help them" said in front of the people is a huge mistake. Shows weakness of the team and allows a manipulator to drive a wedge.
If TSHTF widespread, quite a few people will succumb to this sort of thing- "what do you mean you won't give your food away, we are starving!?" Using social norms to get what you want out of people is a big part of social engineering. You got to guard against this sort of thing.
