while typing another post, i mentioned some singing...
and remembered a recent event...
very recently we were at a gathering of campers... many hundreds of folks, which lasted for several days.
there were many subgroups... folks based on military backgrounds, georgraphical backgrounds, age, activity, etc...
all were getting along just fine...
each night there would be a special group leading the singing and entertainment.
this event happened in the southern half of the u.s.a with attendees from many states... near and far.
each group sang some church songs, some patriotic songs, some "oldies" some they wrote, and all kinds.
one night, the group sang a song that brought the crowd to their feet that had to do with being from south of the mason/dixon. a song well known to all there.
a song that had to do with the roots of most of the folks there. it was a trilogy of elvis well known songs.
one small group of about 25 got up and quietly marched out. i was surprised that they left as a group.. as individual couples were entering and leaving all evening.
after the group left, i was slow to understand why... when i asked the folks seated near me, they looked at me like i was a d.a.
rr, " they left because they didnt' like that song(s) we just sang and honored."
dagnabbit,
i'm about tired of their disrespect... and eagerness to show it...
the good news is ... they did so quietly...
they had been treated very nicely and even given more honor and attention than any other group, when you factor in the small number in their group, compared to the total attendance.
