  • how will you know? nukes

I've been having discussions with an associate who lives on the west coast about what to do if there is a n. Korean attack.
they rent an apt in a large city.

5 minutes ago i'm on the computer, (but not the internet!) and considering associates situation and what would be the early warning signs. with no warning all the lights/electricity goes out. gladly the generator came on very quickly, and electricity restored.

the suddenness of the lights going out, was sobering, considering my concerns for associate.

I quickly pulled up this site to see if the internet was working. I get internet with phone service. internet working.

and now 10? minutes later municipal electricity working and generator cut off.

    but back to my question..

what are signs that indicate attack is eminent (sp?) > about to happen<

Public may or may not have any official warning as in from the gub mint. Wonder what the flight time is to West Coast from NK? Subs in "development" news says which means already some out there nuclear capable. Cause you know it wasn't just a few months ago that "they can't hit the US" and all the polyanna types would just scream 'MURICA!' when it came to discussing this and talk about how "no little Asian men are ever going to beat the US, 'MURICA!" Guessing they didn't pass history class...

    Anyways-

    1. Probably no "official" word from gubmint- I wouldn't count on that.
    2. Could monitor news of missile "tests" and stay alert to breaking news during that- or if truly concerned do more.
    3. If/when Trump hits them, then EXPECT this and expect any thing launched from there might be on it's way to your Zip code.
    4. Bert the Turtle as last resort...

Kim isn't a complete dunskie, he has watched as Saddam was taken down and said "I ain't going out like that!". He also saw where (supposedly) Khaddaffy Taffy acquiesced to the west and got rid of his toys, taken down not long after by Hitlary Klinton that probably brokered the deal wherein he gave up his goodies.

He also hasn't fallen for (I'm sure) a lot of US provocation. I know I know, we have the olive branch in the hand, we are so peaceful never start guff anywhere in the world.... Well that's long gone folks and your living in 1920's if you believe that crap. Actually long before that.

The eagle has an olive branch in one hand, and a handful of arrows in the other.

We can't/probably won't just attack Kim outright. Amerika gives too much of a damn about world opinion, hence the fabrications that lead to war- Gulf of Tonkin, Remember the Maine, all those old battleships left in Hawaii after FDR gets word of imminent jap attack, etc.

It's just like in skewl, back in the day who "started" the fight got in more trouble than the other person. So you got ready and then you egged the other guy one to fight- "yo Momma's so poor, she got a Gmail account so she could eat the spam!" and tried to egg the other guy to throw the first punch so you wouldn't be in trouble when you beat his butt. Same thing is a much larger more serious stakes game going on now.

So when you see headlines like Stealth fighter fly inside N. Korean airspace, etc. these are all just little provocations to get Kim to do something. So far, he hasn't bit, and that's smart of him. If the gubmint really wants a war look out for a false flag event.

I think personally the little chubby guy has been doing a lot of cyber attacks in return for some of our provocations.

I agree with lowdown. Only thing I was aware of that might work or not , At the time 15 years or so, NORAD was supposed to integrate with the National Weather Service. So a warning is supposed to cut in on a weather radio system. Will .gov do it, will it work if they did try. Would they put out a fire tree call on smart phones?.
Just when you hear a huge bomb , DON'T LOOK , just go to a low place and wait a bit to see what happens. get your shft bag. Hope your house is not bamboo and paper.

          How would we know?

Always a good question which never seems to get a good answerl

I try to read between the lines and stay alert.

I'm not overly concerned about the NORK's .....yet. Alert but not overly concerned.

Part if it is the Nuke electric plant that Clinton built for NORK on the NORK side of the demarcation line is still running providing close to 80% of NORK electricity.
We are still staffing it with American contractors and maintaining it with American parts and fund.

The manufacturing plants (both north and south of the demarcation line) and staffed by both NORK's & SORK's are still running 7 days a week.

The raillines being built from SORK into NORK are still being built by the SORK's. (Much of which is done by American companies and staff)

If we were really going to do something, I think it likely we'd pull out the American's staffing the nuke plant.
          But then again, maybe not.

Still, all in all, there's no major disruption between normal day to day operations by US and SORK personnel in the north and the NORK personnel in the south.

So my best SWAG is I'm not overly concerned...... yet.

          Stay frosty my friends.

Remember: When goods and services fail to cross borders, Armies do.

I don’t live anywhere near a likely target, so how would I know if the US were nuked, or if the US received an EMP?

            1. If the lights went out, I would contact my neighbors via a com-network that we have already set up to see how widespread the outage is.
            2. I have a shortwave transceiver and antennas, so I would monitor the rest of the country and world using battery power.
            3. After 3-weeks or so, someone from law enforcement would likely post fliers on the mailboxes at the end of the road (no home delivery). I haven’t seen a police patrol car or fire truck on my road in the 6+ years that I have lived here, I don’t expect to see one then either.
            4. The local meth-heads will begin breaking into homes for drugs, alcohol, and/or money.
