  • Madagascar Plague

I know Lowdown started another thread about "Without looking it up", but thought we should have a thread on this threat.

THE PLAGUE currently killing and infecting hundreds of people in Madagascar and East Africa is even more deadly than the Black Death which left 200 MILLION dead across the world.

From the article: "THE PLAGUE currently killing and infecting hundreds of people in Madagascar and East Africa is even more deadly than the Black Death which left 200 MILLION dead across the world."

Get that, 200 million dead across the world. From Wikipedia "The Black Death was one of the most devastating pandemics in human history, resulting in the deaths of an estimated 75 to 200 million people in Eurasia and peaking in Europe in the years 1346–1353." Now think about how much travel was done by airplanes, buses, trains back in 1346-1353. Yup, we live in a more connected world today.

EXCLUSIVE: The World Health Organization now states there are 1,801 suspected cases - significantly higher than the 1,309 it reported last Thursday.

Quotes from article: "Deadly airborne plague in Madagascar is now at 'crisis' point and the 'worst outbreak in 50 years' as cases rocket by almost 40% in just 5 DAYS".

"Two thirds of this year's cases have been caused by the airborne pneumonic plague and means it is spread through coughing, sneezing or spitting. It is different to the traditional bubonic form that strikes the country each year."

"Professor Robin May, an infectious diseases expert at Birmingham University, told MailOnline that 'whichever way you look' at the outbreak, it’s 'concerning definitely'."

Thinking about World War Z, the movie and this outbreak

In the movie(actually, from the book), there was a part that's always stuck with me.

The main character was trying to track down the origin point of the outbreak.
      He connected with a smuggler.
When asked how the outbreak managed to get thru the tightened security from China into the EU,
      the smuggler replied:
"The rich and powerful locked all their front doors and gates, but they ignore the servants entrance."

Today's plague is starting on the SE coast of Africa, on an island and going to the African coastal countries closest to the island.

I remember the info regarding the UN refugee relocation program where people AREN'T vetted but are picked up near their village in Africa, brought to town by truck with the clothes on their back, handed an envelope, put on a plane, flown to the US landing in the middle of the night, not at the passenger terminal but the freight terminals.

Then they are taken by (eg: Lutheran or catholic or baptist services) to their local respective facility.

No vetting, slid by customs!!!! Then they are moved quietly to middle small town America.

Is this our "Servant's entrance" the book/movie referred to?

Niger is one of the sources for these folks that the "services" make a ton of money from for each and every one they bring in.

The people they bring in are referred to as "Black Africans" because their skin is blacker than most Africans.
Niger has an average IQ between 60 and 67.

Can you pick a better vector for a disease to use to move itself over here?

Remember, these are the same people who dig up their dead relatives and carry them thru town once a year, showering the dead one with kisses and then reburying them (Coincidentally spreading the plague that the relative died from).

      Something to think about.

Right but still, bubonic isn't to be ignored.
Once I see it here, I'll be concerned.
Right now, I'm just aware of it.

a writer tells in his story that there will be a epidemic of noticeable high fatalities and this will be one of the triggers or warnings of other severe hard times...
I looked up the words he used and found that bubonic plague was an example.

a small country in Africa alone doesn't sound like the story I read, but as prc said, if we start seeing it jump many borders and many sick/dying then it would fit the story line!

hmm, so what are the medicines for bubonic?

Its true it is not here. However it is worth watching and paying attention to. It may never get here, but it allows us to see how things can spread in case there is ever a significant outbreak, or a viral type of WMD is used here.

They are now seeing the Marburg virus scattered in with this bacterial outbreak. Marburg has a 88% mortality rate.

Glad you mentioned Marburg, I saw that last week but then only found reference to Ebola. Both hemoragic but different IIRC.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

20 million black death plague victims. Maybe. Not 200 million. in 1300, there were only about 350 million people on the whole planet.
