  • Hurricane Irma

Getting ready here in N. Central FL for this one. Got the wife out of our condo in Miami on Wednesday. We are right on Biscayne Bay there. Looks like the storm will come right up the middle of the State. Batten down the hatches mates, it's gonna be a rough one. Harvey was nothing in comparison.
Hope all of y'all are going to be fine.

    Ready as we can be.
There's no getting out imho.if your in south fl.
95 has been grid locked south of sr92 since Wednesday. Due to a construction done.
Gas has been hit or miss since the same.

Think of that guys. 5 days out 300 miles from landfall is no gas,no supplies. Water ,wood etc all gone more or less 8+ days prior to landfall.

Looks like ill have a house full(parents).
Brother is across the river two miles....but his wife is insane.
All week she's been at home, in denial . That it's not gonna hit.
Then her friend in Tennessee calls Wednesday.
She went from don't prep to we have to glee ,all of Florida is gonna did.
I almost ended her last night. Helping my brother get his generator going and she comes out yelling at us for running it and why....

I hate people...I hate people like her....

    Anyway.

you guys know where I'm at.
Ill be running 2m if it gets bad, just a HT. But will have CB back up. Ill post channel choice once I get squared up after work today.

Good thing is I've had to run my alternative bug home routes two days in a row. One put me 45 minutes behind....one I was only 10 minutes off normal drive time.

I decided that we would close today through Tuesday the 12th because of this. Hosting family and lots to do.

Building "cages" around wood sheds with cattle panels in case firewood starts a flying. Boarding up windows. Painting "looters will be killed and eaten" signs, etc. :) LOL

Stay safe everyone. Check in when you can.

            Thanks.

Looking now like with a little more west ward shift we may get very little of anything.

My Dad and Step Mom are sheltering in place in North Ft. Myers...they are about a 1/2 mile from the river. They are from the midwest and think it will be like a tornado and might miss them...smh...when I heard that I was like "Are you kidding me!!!!!!!!!!!"

Lost regular power about 3:40 am here. Lots of heavy wind and rain so far.

                    I'm alive.
But will have tons of hickory wood to cook on lmao.
                    Winds are still cranking.
No power..no sewer. Water was off for a bit. No cell.
                    Generator is going..
                    Lots to clean up.
A mobile WiFi hotspot is on my wish list. With out my brothers I'd be out of the loop.

storm went over our heads, but you florida folks sufficiently wore it down! thanks.

our internet went down! it would show connected, then die about 30 seconds later...
just now, I decided to hard wire it... working better but very slow.

a few trees down, but they were in bad shape. I should have cut them down before.
lots of debris to clean up... no damage. concrete guy just finished slab on friday.. I asked if I should keep it wet. he just smiled and
said "no." storm will do that! and it did!

sounds like it could have been a whole lot worse!
                      Thank You Lord!

You are quite welcome - we didn't mind 'weathering' the storm for our northern neighbors. We only lost power for about 17 hours, and considering the extent of the power outages in FL (75% or so at one point), that was an almost miraculous recovery. Generator made it more than tolerable since I was able to make/drink a pot of coffee this morning :D Lots of flooding all around us, but we were high and dry except for a few puddles on top of already saturated ground from the nor'easter that directly preceded Irma. Tomorrow is yard-cleaning day - all the time in the world since I retired on Friday (went out with an unintended bang!). Folks on the other side of the state weren't as lucky; praying for them! Glad everyone came through with lives intact, save one heart attack victim downstate (that we know of right now). Keeping a wary eye on Jose - hoping those less-than-accurate tracks got it right this time. If you're in NE FL and need any help, let me know.

We're alive, and I even heard from Spock, he's doing ok, weathered the storm one place, got back to his already.
Life in Lakeland is interesting, Publix is doing their best to get product out, it's an interesting time to be in the department I'm in. My house has no power, but my in-laws do, so wife and kids are bunking there while I be nite time watchdog.

LOL that's good to hear, we're still out of power. I think we'll be doing something similar. Something small first, then something bigger, with the smaller unit being delegated to my "Emergency communications equipment" ;-)
