  • not part of my preps

this is a top reason I like this site...
gets my ole brain out of the cobwebs and thinking/challenging/what iffing.

talking about rvs and jimmy explains he has a sho' 'nuf bad a@@ travel trailer, but its not part of his preps. (not a quote)

In my head, (not on the forum) I disagreed with him... I was thinking what an awesome prep item.
hmm. maybe I just a had great huge case of jealousy!!
but it got me to ponderin' (south ga. term) what are preps?

so, for the last few days, for everything I was doing, using, cleaning, buying, fixing, etc.. I would wonder, is this stack of boards, tool, shelf of food, chain saw, camping gear, machine, truck, duck, fishing pole, baby walker, old person walker, bb gun, whatever are they part of my preps? or just something I have or do?

today I got out the soap, hoses, sprayers, wax, fuel additives, greases, rags, and cleaned with a tad of light maintenance some stuff. preps?
most recently I put together a baby walker for a guest that is on the way to the house real soon. most recently I worked a walker in and around a hospital for a 90+ year old associate. are these folks part of my preps? are my efforts to help financially, spriritually, physically, in all ways both of these folks part of my preps?

yeah, I think so... just a broad definition of the word prep!
    thanks jimmy.
i'll buy you a drink, the next time we see ya!

A regular here asked me years ago regarding preps- "does it ever end?"

I said, "it just changes focus and direction. I may not be buying food storage regularly any more, but I'm cross fencing pasture for cattle, fertilizing pecan trees, breeding rabbits and adding more solar. Instead of trying to hoard a few thousand rounds of ammo, I'm making sure I'm using a few thousand for developing SKILL AT ARMS."

Your Roth IRA is part of your preps, as is being debt free, as is figuring out how you can make an additional income stream off your homestead.

Sometimes you look back and realize certain categories have been very lacking. For me it's the realization that I hadn't done anything with my comms in over a decade. I'm looking to remedy that in the future. I have close friends all over the country, some I need to be able to comm with if something happens.

Sometimes things change as we age, as our health changes, etc.

I guess, as far as toys like the travel trailer, there are different levels of TSHTF. I think four levels (I'm sure there are more) would do. Personal, local, regional and national/worldwide. In the cases of my use, they were personal (A/C going out) and local (power failure). I always have some food and gas in it so I guess, if you REALLY stretch the definition, it could be called a cache of sorts, or a stop on the way out of town. It's too cumbersome to be called a BOV, but would make an alternate temporary dwelling under some limited circumstances (not to be confused with a bug out location). To be clear, it's stored in a different location on one of my routes out of town.

I confessed to possible jealousy earlier...

confession is good for the soul.

I confess now before those here before us...
of a sure enough case of honest jealousy!

and I suspect you've got yourself a sho' 'nuf macho truck too, cause my little half ton couldn't handle that rig!
            congrats again.

If one's camper is solar equipped, it makes a good temporary home. Last year some fires were very close to our home, so I got out the extra propane tanks and readied some food just in case. The fridge is propane powered as is the heater; all one needs is a charged 12v battery for the fridge controls, heater fan, and the lights. No A/C without 110v. I could have that if I wanted to grab a portable generator, but it doesn't get that hot here in Florigabama. It won't stop bullets but it will stop hypothermia/hyperthermia. It is difficult to justify the cost of a camper for preps, but it might lessen one's refugee status and it makes a good extra home/bedroom when visitors come.

No def...just put diesel in it and go. It's a Chevy, so it has the Isuzu motor which I'm not that crazy about but it's given me 7 years of good service (got it used). What I really like is the Allison tranny....max towing of 17,200 lbs. and has a tow mode that works well. Trailer fully loaded is about 14-15k and it handles it well. Converted 5th wheel to a goose neck so I can use it as a utility truck when not towing.

People have only used TP for 100 years and actually survived without it! There are many ways to salve the “problem” going back to pioneer and even Roman days. I have made post of this subject before. The TP will run out be ready.

I think all diesel pickups after 2010 have def. If the tank goes empty, you can start it a couple of times before the computer locks you out. I wonder if anyone has figured out programming to bypass that feature? A family member was looking to purchase a Dodge with the V6 diesel (Fiat). Currently, they are not available because of a fight with the EPA.
