  • Husband lost his job

Today, along with thousands of other NASA contractors and employees, my husband lost his job. In fact, it's been a blood bath around here. I feel particularly sorry for the younger engineers who have children. A young friend of ours got laid off 2 weeks ago, his wife, who works at another company, got laid off today also.

We suspected this was coming for about 3 days, congress hobbled together a NASA budget which did not continue Constellation.

My husband is depressed as he loved his work.

The people who have lost their jobs over that last 2 months or so, are hard working professionals, who pay their taxes, and PURCHASE supplies and services. This is going to effect all those shop owners, mall workers, hairdressers, and other service folks as well.

Our Huntsville house has been on the market since we found out Obama was cutting NASA. It still hasn't sold. We now have 2 homes on a 1 home budget! At least we have no other debt.

The NASA Director, who was asked to remain in the country due to the dire situation, opted instead to go on a world tour, and to spend time in the middle east so the muslims will feel included.

I'm grateful to God for all the blessings he has given me, but I sure hate tightening my belt.

I don't think anyone likes tightening up, I know I don't ;) Sorry to hear about the job loss.

Is it possible to rent the other house wherein at least you mortgage will be covered?

      Man, that sucks!!!!!

All I can say is prioritize... and let what is not important fall by the wayside if money can't be divided enough... Let the bankers and creditors pound sand if need be.

Sorry to hear that monkeybird that really stinks. I will pray for them all.
I'm still employed but my wife lost her job for a while and is now employed but at half pay. We have fought for 2 yrs but have come to the end. We are losing our house.

Monkeybird - sorry to hear about the job loss. On 48days.net on the left hand side there is a post it note that says "Take a look at Dan's 48 low cost business ideas" this is a free pdf by Dan Miller (renowned career coach also checkout the book 48 days to the work you love and No More Mondays) it will hopefully give your husband some hope as well get the creative juices flowing for him to create some income. If I were in your shoes I would take care of the four walls (food, shelter, utilities, and transportation) and get that 2nd home rented or sold ASAP. I would suggest using one of Dave Ramsey's Real Estate Endorsed Local Providers. I have used one Dave's ELP's for Life Insurance and they were top notch, if should happen to get a bad one call his office and let them know he doesn't tolerate bad service when he is recommending them. My prayers go out to you and your husband.

Matt - I am so sorry to hear that you are losing your house. I would recommend listening to Dave Ramsey's radio show because there are so many people that call him asking for advice about losing their house and what their options are every day that I am sure you will hear someone in a very similar situation (you can listen to him on the internet also at Daveramsey.com). My prayers are with you and your wife also.

I hope I haven't broken any rules by referencing some sites, I just want to give some hope and possible sources for additional information.

Thanks, the house is sticks and bricks. Still got my job and we are in no other financial trouble as of now. I got a good church support base to help us find a rental and keep everything moving. Keep monkeybird in your prayers!

Thanks for the Prayers. We probably will consider renting our Alabama home. We plan to stay in Alabama for the next month or 2 to see if any other jobs become available. We are so much more fortunate than most. We have savings to rely if all else fails.

Again, friends, thanks for the prayers.
