This was interesting....
So we are traveling through and stop at a Walmart in Baxley, GA, population maybe 10,000 people? Every time through that area we tend to stop there because that store is always clean, seemingly well run and always calm.
Not this go around. No it wasn't Black Friday either.
So lines are a good bit longer than usual at the registers. People are looking and acting pi$$ed. You can feel a tension. Evidently none of the CC processing network there is working. They make a half arse announcement of that not over the PA system but just some broad saying it at normal speaking levels. I happen to catch what she says.
Finally the same girl says "Cash or check ONLY on line 7" in her big girl voice. I call the family over and we get behind some Me'hicans who usually always pay cash. The family gets in line ahead of me and I try to move up to them. Greasy looking chubby dude blocks the lane with his cart sideways to block my path. I laugh and say "calm down turbo, I'm there with my family." He gives me a stupid look. I say "relax" and gently push his cart to the side.
I get up to the family and say "we gotta get the hell out of here, people are starting to go full retard. It's funny but we don't need to be here."
Some of the people shopping that have crap on the conveyor belts have walked forward to an ATM just in front of the lines and are standing there. A younger couple of the African persuasion don't understand why the ATM also won't work and they are getting belligerent with the employees, lot of "how da hell is ..." and "who the F did that..." flying around.
Us and the Me'hicans zoom out the door, leaving about 50 people standing around at the checkouts grumbling and fighting for spots.
It was a funny incident but it shows you how in literally just a few moments, civility can and WILL break down quickly. This was NOT a big city, this was NOT a big crowd, this was NOT just a certain ethnic group. This was a small rural town on a Monday night (not the 1st of the month either) with a cross section of all colors of the rainbow.
And their is still survivalists that think/plan to make "last minute runs" to ANY store to get items as the S is hitting TF. Yeah right..... Like we've said all along, NOT A GOOD PLAN!
