What happened to the "you can always buy food" answer now?

A man was shot dead on Tuesday during looting and food riots proliferating round crisis-hit Venezuela, an opposition legislator said, bringing to at least four the number of fatalities from this month's wave of unrest. Milagros Paz said that as well as the fatality, another 27 people had been injured during a day of chaos and violence in the eastern Caribbean coastal town of Cumana that she represents for the Justice First party. There were simultaneous lootings in different parts of Cumana.

Damn, it would seem like in a REAL COLLAPSE, not just stolen Ipods and maids not showing up for work, that having FOOD is essential and the statement that "you can always buy food" is one of fantasy.

Back to basics common sense folks- a year supply of the basics for each person in your household. You might not be able to flee the country- which of course is not the answer to everything anyways....

Path of least resistance. Why work if your paid to sit...why work if your given food...shelter...etc.
Problem is those being given everything do not think WHERE that free stuff comes from.
And when it stops...it's like pulling the lollipop from a kid.....
Hey Petunia...you dropped your man pad!

a couple months supply should be adequate. I have more than that, but you never know. A year of stuff for everyone might be over kill.
If things get that bad, then having a wee hoard won't really help. By then, it will be survival of the fittest. We have been promised monetary collapse, societal collapse, cultural collapse and UN troops on the ground for many, many years. Yet to see any of it.

yep mann, you've made a good point. it ain't broke down on a major scale, so there are good indicators, that there won't ever be a problem... that is reassuring.

i'm late getting to the thread... and was about to ask Just if he would share with us his info about the off shore account.
an associate has moved money to Canada. and a few other basics.... his concern is the distance from his home to Canada...
                a long drive...
a few folks are pilots... i'm not. having money and basics for someone who can fly that far would be real reasonable... assuming the destination geography/politics etc.. were still stable.

a group of texas associates are all moving to same area. living in sort of suburban area, but buying up land and building up retreat/homestead in the texas boonies. sheesh... I met with them recently here in my state... it just now dawned on me.. the leader has bought a rural homestead here... also. he had barns he didn't want to give access. and he...
I am slow... I saw equipment and water storage and ... gates and... lol... new curvy driveways through the thick trees...
when we discussed the problems in the country.. he knew I didn't realize what he was doing here... he said he wanted to come visit us, and invited us back on his next visit to this state.

folks, I believe that many normal ole folks are beginning to make preparations.

I knew his finances were strong. and now I realize he's acting on his concerns...

Rock.what will your friend do in canukistan with his funds. Is he currently a resident..citizen....
If not. He better reevaluate his shtf plans. Canada's immigration and laws on non residents buying..living..working there are way different than ours.
Let alone if the events warranted fleeing the U.S.....food for thought eh'

                      yep.

I think associate's option of running north is too risky, because of the distance. especially in a shtf scenario.

nope. not a Canadian citizen. but he's trying to establish some residency/business relationship to make the transfer easier.
his commitment to his current location is very large... family, business, real estate, associates, neighbors, church, so it would be a tough decision to tell his family, "lets go." I need to go check mapquest for distance and time... i'm guessing 2-3 days of hard driving in perfect weather and driving conditions.

brings up a question... how would you "harden" a truck for travel through dangerous area? maybe someone has already discussed in vehicle forum?

If times are bad enough that you are "fleeing" to Canada 2 days of hard driving during "normal" times is a false starter. It's fantasy and that's all it will ever be. My BOL was 5 hours drive north of me during normal times. A trip of that length during times that would prompt me to make it required HUGE amounts of planning, the logistics were daunting. You cant just drive it assuming you will drive the entire way. What if you cant? You have to put boots on the ground seeing the route from the ground level on foot or a bike is a very different view than from a car at 65mph. Primary, secondary and tertiary routes for vehicle as well as on foot and bike. Primary and secondary cache points along intersections of your planned routes. There is tons more that goes into it than just jumping into your car and heading north. Though I guess you could just do that and HOPE FOR THE BEST..

I'm sure there were at least a couple people in Venezuela saying that exact thing this time last year. I wonder if they admit to saying it now???

I have harped on this issue for years , some will stock up, some won't. One fellow during the 2000 scare who was a teacher with my wife told everyone in the break room, I will just go to (my) wifes house . This was after he just bought a 2 thou dollar fender guitar, my wife told him if you show up in my drive I will shoot you on the spot. He never came around again. That was a while ago and most of the old ones have passed. I don't mind helping but where do you draw the line. My fear is the .gov folks!! I used to be one and to hear them talk is scary.

im sure everyone has seen videos and news out of Venezuela. Here is just one more..

im sure some will make excuses this could never happen here, yeah but thats a 3rd world country or nothing like that has ever happened here so we are safe. Food isnt cool and its just not as fun to make lists about food. That cool feeling wont be stronger than the feeling we get when we realize "damn I had time to prepare and all I did was talk about it, plan for and do research" and those lists made and all those PDF's downloaded will make great reading material while standing in the food lines.
