  • What is a Zombie?

Reposted from another Board I frequent --

--I've seen this come up. I know I am a bit of a weirdo and I always think folks know what I'm talking about.. I did it again, somebody asked me about a zombie :D

Well, they don't have to be the night of the living dead type. They can be friends, families, neighbors. Are you ready to fend them off? Even if it means saving yourselves and letting others go?

This is an old twilight zone episode called "the shelter"

My impression is that it's a person who is dead inside, or already dead, thereby having NOTHING to lose. The old saying was that you never wanted to get into a fight with someone who isn't afraid to die, and there's a reason for that. If you have people standing on your front porch who aren't afraid to die, you have a problem. Similarly, if you have people on your front porch who are convinced that you have what they need, and if they don't get it they're going to die, you have a problem. This may require a shift in attitude on your part, as far as who you're willing to shoot. It could be tough, real quick.

Yeah. I don't necessarily think that folks start out as have nots, but often, the have nots turn into zombies :(

I think all folks post SHTF and sometimes even before, while preparing, are Zombies until proven otherwise. Wether it's an eye test like in "I Am Legend" or just making someone prove their worth before allowing them into your life or camp, you must have ways in your mind to distinguish them from others. I can not say that I wouldn't be a zombie to someone who is better prepared than me.

Even if people prove their worth, they can't prove their loyalty. At our ends, we are all animals and our loyalties only imaginary. Those who can stay human will be the only ones trust worthy, the only trustworthy ones will be preppers and we don't want nothing to do with nobody when it all goes down.

There is a hint of truth to this for some however I would have lost my life a long time ago had it not been for those who were loyal enough to die for me. They were not of the same color, religion, geographic or even mindset. There are some here who know what I am talking about - Soldiers, Law Enforcement, Christians and other Emergency Response Folks who lay it on the line daily for folks they don't know.
I don't care how much you think you have you will not make it for any length of time without outside human interaction wether it's for supplies, medical, physical contact, love or other. If you don't want anything to do with anyone else post SHTF then I'm curious why are you trying to survive? You already are reaching out on this site to others pre SHTF are you not? Are you not planning on making it better afterwards? What happens if you lose everything and you just become one of them that are in worse shape than a prepper should I turn you away because "we don't want nothing to do with nobody" ?
I don't mean to jump on you but think carefully about your post plans and how long you can really last as we all have weakness and strengths and are unable to predict the future.

A zombie is simply someone who does nothing to help anyone, including themselves, and sucks the rest of us dry!

It's not too late to get yourself to a counselor and I encourage you to do so immediately!

I have been where you are, albeit at an older age. Right now you are on the emotional roller coaster and you need to talk with a counselor to help you acquire coping tools while waiting for the medications to start working (as they are also a tool to help you, but are not going to "fix" everything.)
