  • Stocking meds..gotta share

I recently ordered some meds to stock from a Canadian Pharmacy that I have used successfully before. Paid with a credit card so I could track the payment and protect myself if merchandise was not delivered. The med prices were super reasonable. Now to the funny part....

1- Ordered meds from Canadian pharmacy
2- Credit card billed by a Ladies clothing store in China
3- Meds shipped by a supplier in Mumbai, India
    4- Small world ain't it?

Now the question is....how much do you trust the quality of the meds?

I have heard that many generic meds are made in India. Look and see what company and look that they are USP rated.... and as LD3 says maybe test on the dogs first.

having spent years in the pharma biz, manufacturing and marketing, shipping and stocking, I'd not trust that chit as far as I could throw an anvil. Just saying...............

A HUGE proportion of what you buy online, is out of date, or just plain counterfeit. Hey, it's your life and health.

My better half just picked up a common script from a well-known pharmacy chain today. Nation of origin: India.

Anyone read the report from Survival Doctor about Fish meds?

Not trying to hijack the thread but thought it was relevant.

So along the lines of what 610Alpha posted, I'm going this route myself for antibiotics to put back for emergency use, just because I don't quite trust foreign sources, and I don't have a doctor that I can trust to talk about emergency scenarios that would warrent a couple pre-written scrips for what I might need to be filled as shtf develops in real time. Fish antibiotics are proven to be acceptable substitutes, so it would be prudent to have that in your bag of medical tricks. If you have a reputable source from another country, fine, use them and stock your medicine chest accordingly.

As for our medicine chest, we use a lot of OTC meds on a regular basis just like everyone else. So, I plan on stocking up on a bunch of those soon as well, and with cold and flu season right around the corner it makes sense to start on those within the next couple months.

Shelf life is important, but we'll go a bit beyond those and still feel safe, so a couple years supply is ok, but I'd still get about 5-6 spread out over a year or two and still feel safe about taking something at about 5-6 years from now or possibly beyond. Same with the fish antibiotics to a degree. it depends on the particular antibiotic. Certain ones grow toxic past their shelf life, and that has no place in a survival situation. The main thing is to do your homework, and be sure of your facts before hand. Know what meds need to be used for what particular situation, the benifits, and the adverse reactions. side effects may make things worse for your group, so study well and KNOW FOR SURE WHAT TO DO, AND WHAT YOU NEED. If you have a group, and a dedicated medic, make sure at least one or two people in your group gets cross-trained in as many aspects of the medical training and knowledge that they possess, and that includes dispensing meds to any group member that is ill or injured. It won't do any of your group any good if something happens to your medic, and nobody else knows what to do next for the ill or injured.
And it's a good idea to do that in all aspects of your group's fields of expertise.

Knowledge is power and never underestimate anything or take anything for granted in a survival situation.

The belief that some antibiotics turn toxic after expiration is somewhat of a internet myth.the belief originates from a man who died from taking expired tetracycline however the man's medical records if I remember correctly indicate that he was suffering from extreme kidney disease previously and had other underlying medical conditions in addition the tetracycline in question has had its chemical makeup I guess for lack of a better term changed since then.the tetracycline prescribed now is not the same tetracycline in question. however I'm not a doctor or a biochemist so take what I say with a grain of salt ....do your own research.

I was brought up on the "throw Tetracycline out 14 seconds after it's expiration date cause even looking at it will KILL YOU!" mantra.

Since then, I've taken Tetracycline several years out of date without a problem.

And the fish meds we had a thread about a while back and numerous here chimed in how they took them for a while without problems.

In the PAW, this will be another reason to keep prisoners every so often- to check if your expired meds turned harmful or not. You won't want to risk it on your dogs then.

years ago Patriot Nurse did a video on this subject. Its worth watching.. MANY drugs including tons of antibiotics are good for 5-10 years AFTER expiration

yeah video is about 5 years old but the data is legit. There seriously is NO good excuse to NOT stock some antibiotics. Even the old fallback stance favored by the list makers(you have no way of knowing what bug you are fighting, thus how do you know what antibiotic to take?) is WEAK in my opinion. Umm BROAD SPECTRUM! sure its not 100% but ill take my chances..
