  • MUST HAVE BOOK FM 5-34

On another thread it was discussed , building a small bridge. I mentioned a small book, after reading thru it again , first time in 10 or 12 years I think it is still very useful. I will list subjects you may have to use that are in the FM. It will tell you how to build it or destroy it.
    FM-5-34 ARMY
    combat ops
    mobility
    survivability
    recon sites
    demo
    bridging
    roads& air fields
    rigging
    misc. field data
This means you can prep a chopper landing area for med or block road access or take down trees using demolitions or build a bridge or take one down. Anyway when SHTF and you find yourself with mil spec hardware this will tell you how to use it. Also all civie equipment. I have found them on several internet sale sites.

Watch the book section at the surplus stores that carry real surplus or are near bases. Often times they have all kinds of manuals for $1. or so each.

HIGHLY UNLIKELY, but it would be crazy to find an 81mm mortar in the PAW and think "damn I passed up a manual for a $1. that would have helped." LOL. Or collect the pertinent ones for a nice library, either way, cheap investment.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

A lot of things are unlikely, but being an old boy scout from way back means never forgetting your roots, and that means.......BE PREPARED.
Information is always a good thing no matter what it is. A good way to look at it would be to take a look at one of the often used "preparedness" quotes by author, Robert A. Heinlein.

"A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects."

I keep all sorts of information and books myself. It's called a library. For anyone to ban a book or information is censorship, and in some cases (how to build atomic weapons, etc,) it is prudent. However, anything else is the hallmark of tyrants and their minions, and should fought at every twist and turn, and never allowed to come to the point of public book burnings.
"It has been said that preparedness and being prepared promotes fear. This isn't true.......being UNPREPARED is what promotes fear"
