if only all the bad things would get equal press...
    bottom line.
many worse crimes are committed and get hardly any press.

well this one is bad enough to warrant discussion. I can't think of any scenario where a fleeing felon constitutes enough of a real and credible threat to the officer, that he needs to be shot in the back.
Stupid shooting, a bad shooting, and one that will cause problems. Of course, it's pretty devastating for the victim and his family as well.
No way to sugar coat this one. No way to defend it either.

I can think of a situation which would warrant shooting a felon in the back...

he had just injured/killed a friend/family member of mine.

this case... yes it looks a bad decision.
however, I want to see some press about the 4 gangsters who beat up a man and tossed him in front of oncoming traffic.... (here in ga.)
        or
the case of 2 gangstas who tried to rob a lady and when she had no money to give they point blank shot her baby sitting in a stroller.....

where is the press and the outrage for these 2 events which are much worse...

there was absolutely no charges, no running from authority, no prior offense by the baby nor the guy who was tossed in front of oncoming vehicles...

Seeing the video, I do not know what that black item was on the ground (tazer?), but the guy pulled over for a TRAFFIC OFFENSE, running away, slowly as he is overweight, is NOT a threat to shoot in the back...

Sadly, the cop is probably a nice guy in general, but POOR TRAINING in stressful situations caused him to react in anger, and now his life is ruined... He will not last long in prison. A COP shooting a BLACK man in the back... Very sad...

Sharpton is touting for a nationalized police force because of this and other similar shootings.
            bad shoot as others said.

This is why obama and holder fanned the flames in Ferguson and with Trevon, they want an excuse to form a "national police force" that will answer to them.

Isn't it ironic that Al Sharpton came up with this idea? The same Al Sharpton that obama consulted with on Ferguson multiple times.

obama is truly a D@%che bag.

nothing more will happen to that cop than would happen to you or I if we felt our life was in danger and we shot someone in the back while they were running away. Bad training perhaps, bad cop,,,,,,,,,,,,,, yeah.............
