                a thought came to mind when I read the thread a second time...
                I'm sure a lot of you guys on here could tell this story. (as either the son, or as the father, grandfather of the son)

                an associate has a son was average sized and build... a smart kid who made good grades.
                when he was little he was taught him to stand up for others... if the big/rude/bully kids were picking on a small/retarded/scared kid he should try to use his wit and intellect to defuse the situation, while he got between the bully and the wimp.

                then as he got older the son was taught to stand up in society. against the thief. against the intruder.
                and to stand for his country. his people... boy scout principles.

                then it was natural for the associate to approve his son to be "willing to die" for his country, as the son went off to become a soldier.

                this is nothing like the story of Jesus. but, there is a little similarity. the father could have easily directed the son in another direction.
