  • WANTED- ARTICLES, get free preps

So there is a few articles I'd like to see here on the forums that haven't been address to the extent I'd like to see them addressed. Some of these interest me and I have little or no experience with the particular subject-

    - Archery and bow hunting- primitive and/or modern. Folks are interested in both

    - Traditional soapmaking, i.e, ashes and fat type stuff.

    What I'd like to see-

Multi page article, written towards the newbe in this particular subject, lots of pics, etc. If your biased towards a certain type of bow for example- WHY and what does your experience teach in that regard? Not a "I researched this" article, but articles written from experience please. As complete as possible, give the reader enough to give moving on the subject right then. Write the article for a doer, not someone who is going to "print this out and put it in a binder"- we have enough of those types, we need to always motivate people to get out and DO things instead of just reading about them. In other words, give people what they need to get out and DO IT!

What I don't want to see-

General overview type stuff or snipets- "I like bowhunting, bowhunting is great, the end." Once again, think you are taking a person new to this subject by the hand and are molding them in a way that will get them out there DOING.

    What's it's worth to me-

While it's a forum and we are all here helping each other in various ways, I am willing to pay for a quality article on these subjects. I think these are both very pertinent subjects, I personally need more training in both also, so yes, their is some selfish motivation, hence the willingness to pay.

A quality article, how to style with pics, good explanations, etc. Doesn't need to be 7 volumes long, but 200 words won't cut it either.

$50. credit towards any preparedness gear or supplies at www.jrhenterprises.com to the best article

If the article is outstanding I reserve the right to add to that amount ;)

Time frame- by the end of 2014
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

    Wow great offer.
I sold all of my bow hunting gear year or so back :(.
Would be cool if it covered everything from recurves to cross bows. All I know is the equipment has changed so much in 15 yrs that its like comparing a mosin to a scar ...

Yeah, I'd like to see something more on bows as well. Got what looks like a pretty decent recurve that someone was getting rid of this past summer while scrapping metal from neighborhood trash piles.
I'll be going to this one particular gun store within 50 miles of me that not only has a great selection of firearms, but caters to bow hunters as well in a big way. I'll be taking it with me to get a good opinion as to the fitness of it, where they might see something wrong where I didn't. Looks like all I need is some new bow strings. It will be great to know for sure.

And while I'm doing all this, I'll be asking loads of questions about compound bows and crossbows as well. Figure that these relatively silent weapons deserve serious consideration for a preparedness armory.
I shot some recurve bows back years ago as a teen, but for sure there have been some changes to archery equipment over the years, and you're never too old to learn some new skill sets. Figure stuff like that helps to stimulate the old grey matter, and this might help to stave off "old timers" disease.

I pulled the trigger on a crossbow today. Guy was really helpful, took the time to go over everything with us, "want to shoot it?" took us in the back and went over everything. I listened and tried to relate everything I didn't understand to firearms-

He mentioned something about the weight of the broadtip and how it can throw off your shoot compared to another one. I smiled and said "kinda like you don't want to change bullet weight when you zero your precision rifle?" Yeah that's it.

As a fellow salesperson, I appreciated that as I try to take the time to do the same- be helpful, answer questions, etc. This was actually at a "big box" hunting/outdoor store and honestly I didn't expect good customer service like that.

So the question is- How the hell does Darryl **** his crossbow so quickly and easily? LOL

From the looks of the guy in the show, I'd say he had been doing that sort of thing for quite some time. Practice. Practice. Practice.

Back to the thread...Soap making sounds like a winner too. Good skill to know if it ever comes to the day that you can't get nice, perfumed, store bought any more.
I have a file that shows the process to make your own lye from wood ash here at home. I'm pretty sure I also have the info on making soap around here in my library and Binders-O-Knowledge.
In the mean time I'm saving all of my slivers of used bars, because I have directions for reclaiming them into full size bars again.
As of this post, I have a plastic shoe box about half full of them. And this is just the soap bars that I use. My wife and son each have their favorites as well.
