Does anyone have a theory as to why in the world they would purposely bring Ebola into the US? I'm just curious.

Figure it will be 4-5 days minimum and a couple hundred more cases (all spread to the wind) here in the US before the media announces that "there MAY be Ebola now in the US."

What I want to know is what are they spraying in the pics/video of the outbreak area? One video showed a suited healthworker spraying near and even on a patient.

Is our old trusty 1/10 bleach water solution going to handle this bad boy? Higher concentration?

I also agree. I don't see another way other than staying home in quarantine. That means loss of jobs and economic problems wich leads to civil unrest, which I think is 'their' goal.

1. because the victims have money/clout and dont care about the risk to the unwashed masses;
2. because the victims' people here in the US think US has a 'magic' cure (or can find one if the threat of deadly contagion can create sufficient 'crisis funding');
3. because the contagious disease folks want some pathogen of their own to experiment with (and think they can control it);
and (warning - crossing over to tinfoil hat territory)
4. the CIA (insert your own organization) want to try to weaponize it;
5. some think the poor/marginalized need to be thinned out by a 'little' outbreak;
6. it is a perfect excuse to call all those executive orders into play while appearing virtuous and caring

The spread of the virus COULD mean;
1. Quarantines of whole regions of the country.
2. Declaration of martial law to enforce quarantines.
3. Suspension of the Constitution until order is restored.(if ever)
4. Use of executive orders because the house and senate can't be in session.(due to quarentines)
5. Suspension of elections.

Do I think any of this will happen? No, but it could.

I think you guys just made my weekend. This is a stupid decision that seems to jump right out of a B movie. At least the CDC already has a bunch of crazy funk under control in Atlanta but I don't see why or even how they could justify the risk of bringing that stateside.

I guess I am the odd man out on this... I think Ebola will make it here by another means, rather than the two Americans they are flying in to Atlanta. It will come from freighter crews or plane passengers. The CDC, with all their faults, do know how to contain a virus when they KNOW a virus exists in a person. It's not voodoo, it is simple physics of filtration and isolation. The US will be safe from those two... But the rest of traveling Africa is another story. It is those people I dread...

As for brainstorming, a reminder that military gas masks with EXPIRED, but UNOPENED filters will be 100% viable for Ebola. The expired activated carbon is really only useful for CHEMICALS. It is the HEPA filter medium that will protect from viruses (less super small ones like smallpox), and to some extent the Activated Carbon passageways. So if it gets hotter, pull out that NBC gear and check the seals, check the fit, and see if NOW would be time to get a few more filters.

Personally, if Ebola went hot in bordering States or my State, I would wear goggles and N95 3M masks and maintain social distancing. If it got hot in my State and I had to mingle with the masses for some reason, I would switch over to full face protection when I had to risk exposure. Then decon with outside shower and bleach solution in a far corner of my property exposed to full sunlight (UV rays and quick drying of area). If in winter, that will suck... Still need to think about winter decon...

a lot of relatives close by hospital and airport.

How hard could it possibly be to smuggle a few Infected people across our southern border. I mean considering that you can be infected for weeks without showing any symptoms. Frankly I'm surprised it hasn't happened already

I'm not calling any of this tinfoil fodder so don't get me wrong. Here's my cut on it.

1) Probability is pretty low that this will get out directly from these two being brought here. Both Emery and CDC have had excellent track records of isolating stuff like this (recent Anthrax incident is the obvious exception).

2) I see more of a probability of someone sneaking across the border after being infected. If they'll suicide bomb, then this is not too far of a stretch.

3) I see even more of a probability that some uninformed crazy will panic and do something stupid. Could be someone with the flu or other related illness being mistaken for ebola and causing a panic. Could be someone spotting a 'suspicous' ambulance and ambushing it. Something along those lines.

Realize that I work less than 5 miles from Emory University Hospital and live less than 13 miles from there. Am I wary? Absolutely. Am I panicking? Not yet. Am I taking precautions? Duhhhhh.
