I do a lot of searching on Youtube of "How To's, Prepping, and gear reviews. I am sure many of you here do as well. Last year I watched a popular prepper/gear reviewer and he showed his "Dollar Store" medical supply haul for $30.00 or the like. Like a lemming I went right out to the Dollar Tree and stocked up on Gauze, band aids, and the like. I bought lots of Band aids of different shapes and sizes with out testing them in a smaller quantity first.
In march of this year I got bit by something (probably a spider ) while spring cleaning the yard and getting my tomato plants ready. I thought I had a briar or stick in my shirt sleeve pricking me. I pulled at it several times not giving it any mind. I was almost done and the sweaty dirty shirt was about to come off. On my upper inside Bicep was a large raised welt with a lot of redness around it, and it was very tender to touch. Guess I should have looked instead of ignoring/assuming it was something else. In my duties with work a P.A. I know told me to keep some anti septic and a band aid on it, and some ice for the swelling in the evenings. My mother a semi retired nurse told me the same (second opinion).
The Dollar Tree bandaids I bought are useless... the gauze pad just fell off the strip when I opened it from the wrapper, the adhesive barely stuck to my skin i tried 15 different boxes I had purchased with the same results. I guess the adage of "some things you just cant but cheap" Applies here. If There was blood in the mix I don't think they would have stuck at all... thats if you could pull off the acrobatics of keeping the gauze pad on the strip getting it out of the wrapper and to the wound.
Lesson learned, don't forget the practice of trying something out first before buying in bulk. Second the internet "Guru" is not always right and can get you killed in some instances. I will not mention his name or channel some here may figure it out. But he was someone I watched regularly but now he has just become a gear whore and is pushing product for "free stuff" to review. I am now seriously doubting some of his prepping advise as well. not knocking the guy just some bad advise hes given.
Get out there try it out, and do for it yourself. See what works now not later.
I meant to post this a while ago but never got to it, sorry.
Added note,
Not everything in the dollar store is a bad buy just try it out first, YMMV on my experience, mfg dependant and all.
Other failed dollar store purchases:
60w light bulbs (burn out in weeks)
batteries (don't last as long)shelf life more then likely.
