    Do you Love your Children?
If you love your Children then you want/hope/dream of better future for them than you have for yourself [period].
If you want better for them than you must lead by example...

So you should go to WORK for your children. So they have an example in their lives of HOPE, So they see you believe in that HOPE for a better future enough so that you "spend your time working for it".

BUT SHE STAYS ON WELFARE BECAUSE SHE IS LAZY AND DOES NOT LOVE HER CHILDREN AS MUCH AS SHE LOVES HER "SOAPS"... Simple as that.

That "Free Money" has strings and a cost... They are hard to see but they are there... They cost you your Will and your hope and your children's hope and your children's will. My number one thing in my life is that I help my child have a better tomorrow. I would guess most here are the same. Most here do what they do for their children... Without the HOPE of a better tomorrow why live? I dont care how good yesterday was TOMORROW can be better. And if TODAY is bad than TOMORROW WILL BE BETTER.

I grew up poor (at times no Electric and no running water...). My mom had 3 boys and we played rough. Once I remember going to a few different "offices" (later learned she was looking for welfare and other support) trying to get help to pay medical bills from one of us breaking a leg. They all told her to stop working. But her parents taught her enough that she knew if she gave up working to get the "Free" money that most likely she would be stuck and if she was stuck most likely her children would be stuck too... So to go into the system in her mind she would have give up on HOPE of a better tomorrow... and to her HOPE for a better life for her children was worth alot more than any FREE MONEY the government wanted to give her to sell it.

And that better tomorrow eventually came... But would it have come if she went after that "free" money? Most likely NOT, I agree with her... Once in the System there has to be a MAJOR change for most to get out of it.

We need to have limits and "other" strings attached to any welfare program.

If your on welfare and you have another kid you get more money... So the government pays you to produce more "addicts" of the free money system.
If have a choice between min. wage and welfare... Welfare pays more... So the Government Pays you to NOT to work... But if you dont work an entry level job most likely you can not get a BETTER job so they payed you to NOT better yourself.

Slaves got FREE FOOD and HOUSING... Today the GOVERNMENT has SLAVES too. If you are on WELFARE by choice you are a SLAVE by CHOICE. You dont have to do manual labor but you have to VOTE the way they want you to and you have to be used as a "prop" as example of their good deeds.

DONT BE A SLAVE get a job and become independent and vote the way that improves freedom and vote for the keeping of personal property.

But how will it stop? When I was a kid, (1960's) people were embarrassed to pull out their food stamps at the store.. Now there's a whole segment (And growing) of the population who wear their lifestyle as a badge honor. Yes, many folks DEFINITELY need help. But many others are scamming the system,
and one political party has built their voting base around making this group ever bigger.. If "other politicians" even suggest a small reduction in the rate of yearly budget increases, they're labeled as evil S.O.B.'s who want all poor people to die!!

I don't see this changing unless the whole thing collapses, and the checks stop going out. Of course, that will hurt EVERYONE, not just the "GimmieDats.."

Work is therapeutic. Of course, they don't see it that way. They feel like they can feel better with the free Prozac that is given to them for their depression, and then the ambien because they can't sleep, then the Xanax to help with the anxiety they have because they can't compete in the workforce without a HS diploma, then the OxyContin for the pain they get in their back because they are a lazy slug and has gained 100 pounds in the last year, then the Lipitor for their high cholesterol, and the B/P med for the high blood pressure, then the metformin for the diabetes, then they need more free money to help pay for all of the meds and junk food. It's a trap, and they don't want to get out, and it's passed down to the next generations.

We need a means test. A simple one.
                1. Are you physically or mentally handicapped? If so you MAY qualify for SOME benefits.
                2. If not, no freebies for you other than a bag of grits and some canned veggies each week. That's it. Enough nutrition to support life. Nothing else.

If you can work but can NOT find work then instead of paying Unions an overpriced wage for City Workers it should be you. Motive the people to get their own job by making sure the money they are given is harder to earn than it would be to earn it in the work force.

I think it is good to have a safety net but that net needs to be only to catch you when you fall not keep you after you have fallen... there needs to be a reason to get back out there as quickly as possible.

                    respectfully stated..
                    I disagree with rice paddy
                    and with not yet..

here's why, (and admittedly very few folks agree with me!)

it is not the government's job to give out money to those that are disabled, or broke, or out of a job.
the government can't help it... it develops to a bureaucracy, and the politicians slowly expand it..
and folks just can't stand working to find a way so that they can get on the dole...
so, I say, it is not the governments job to give out money, whether it is needed, or called a safety net, or "means tested"
                    --
it is my job, your job, my church, your synagogue, my neighbor, your daddy, your son... it is "our" job... up close and personal.
if my neighbor has a need, it is my, your, our job to evaluate it and help as appropriate... help may mean giving a bag of groceries,
help may mean paying his rent this month, it may mean putting him to work cutting grass and pulling weeds as he crawls along the ground.
                    --
then when I, we, you, us, determine that we've helped enough, we should cut off the help or reduce it as appropriate...
                    --
when we delegate this to the government I, we, you, us, lose control of the spending.. we also lose control of the other things we can do to help train the unemployed, teach the hungry to fish, and plant a garden.
if we are helping and we see the person we are helping buying drugs with our hard earned money, we can decide, "heck that's enough of that"
                    and quit helping the druggie.

                    think about it folks.

                      Rhetorical questions.

Notice how none of the programs teach people how to handle money. Why did Jesus say "You will always have the poor?" I think its because he knew that there would always be people that no matter what would never learn how to take care of themselves nor learn how to handle money.

I think He was saying more that there will always be circumstances where a percentage of people will be poor....maybe not through their own fault but still it will be so. Some will be because of opression (as in the Jews in WWII Germany), some will be because of circumstances (natural disasters, drought, famine) and there will be some who will be the squanderer that doesn't put up their 'grain' in years of plenty or who do not want to work.

RR, very well said. Speaking from a biblical perspective I think it goes back to the 'give a man a fish/teach a man to fish' lesson. The gub'ment wasn't supposed to permanently support its citizens, it can't (sustainably). It really does go back to what you see your parents doing, I can remember helping my grandparents and parents in their grocery store from a very young age. Although I may not have liked it in my teenage years... it was a strong lesson. YOU MUST WORK HARD TO GET WHERE YOU WANT TO GO! I can't imagine not working, not being productive. I pray my kids have learned this as well.

where's Gordon when I need him.

I can always say a general principle and butcher up a scripture and ole Gordon will reach in his pocket and read it "straight."

the principle is those who don't work don't eat." and among a bunch of folks in society this sounds mean and uncaring and harsh..
(and it would have better effect if I could tell ya'll where in The Book to find it!)

anyhow, it leads to our country and what we are doing. it leads to discussion of a shtf scenario. lots and lots of folks are going to feel
that they are owed their groceries... it will be engrained into their souls that they are americans and this is the way America provides for them and their kind.
