  • Interesting take on drones

WE need to stop any and all drone testing and use inside the US.

Writing in Quartz, economist Noah Smith makes the argument that the coming age of the fully autonomous drone will bring about social upheaval on a scale not seen since the invention of the musket. But unlike the musket, which was a democratizing weapon that empowered the lowly infantryman to face off against the nobles with …

60 minutes did a show on this topic not too long ago
Will the skies of the future be filled with buzzing drones? Morley Safer explores the new, hardly regulated world of commercial drones

One part of the transcript stands out (to me)
"A recent government report says the FBI has been using small drones in "very limited circumstances" for the last seven years, to track suspects and photograph crime scenes. "

Stopping these programs? It appears the genie is out of the bottle on this one. Just have to brace for the new world of real time mobile surveillance with the option to deliver just about anything to anyone.

It is no longer paranoid... If you are doing something you don't want ANYONE to know about, especially so-called authorities, then you MUST operate as if you ARE under surveillance of all types... It is not going away...

So we're supposed to just lay down and take it?

We will rue the day we let drone use in America slide. Mark my words.

Yes, sorta... Is the airspace above your house YOUR property? Does China like us just outside its borders in INTERNATIONAL waters? Same concept...

Whatever law passed will be ruled unconstitutional when the drone companies take it to court... There airspace above us is not OUR space, it is public domain.

I don't like it, but as a libertarian-minded Constitutionalist, I do not see how we can "pass a law" and it will go away??? HOWEVER, nothing says we can't SHOOT THEM OUT OF THE SKY either, if our background is safe. Snipe, anyone?

Same could be said of Google Glasses... That too is coming and the only hope is banned on PRIVATE property. These glasses are more concerning to me than drones, as they do video and audio...

I would also like to point out the drones can be used against the establishment as well. I am seeing more news stories of citizens using their cameras to record interactions which has been used to reveal the truth. There will be devices created that will scramble signals you can count on that. Teenagers are also very ornery and can cause problems for drones ;)
