Things are slowly racheting up in Ukraine/Russia debacle.

People forget that there is a lot of animosity between these two people groups.

Stalin repressed the Ukrainians big time. When the Nazis rolled into the Ukraine, they were hailed as liberators! Many Ukrainians sided with the Germans. There was even a Ukrainian version of the SS if I remember correctly.

Held together by the repression of communism for almost 50 years after that, then with the "fall" of communism (rebranding) these people groups were once again separated.

So there is an ethnic side to the conflict as well.

A not so close relative was debating with the boy one day about "religion" and she told him "religion has caused so many wars and deaths."

I would add too that it was not "religion" that caused the deaths but misguided "Extremist" wrapping their hate and ill will in the cloak of a religion to gain supporters.

One (of many) reason this whole thing is concerning, is because of apparent LACK of concern, that people here seem to have for the situation. The current generation just doesn't remember the cold war, and doesn't really grasp the seriousness and gravity of the situation.
