I recently saw a show on either the History or Military Channel, where it talked about a False Flag operation by Germany so that Germany could attack Poland.

First if a government did it successfully than another would want to use it for their needs... So YES ANY GOVERNMENT CAN!

But Second, I guess you what you really want to be asking is "Can that Happen here?":
Have you heard of the "The Northwoods Document" or "Operation Northwoods"? The basics is "Kill Americans in America and blame a communist so that you motivate the people to do what we want". Here is a very whitewashed take on it:

If that was planned in the late '50s early '60s when the government was most likely more morally sound than they are today... then I would guess if you planned it 50+ years ago you could pretty easily do today.

How did we get into "War" over there in "Vietnam"? The answer "Gulf of Tonkin Incident". If we go look up the Gulf of Tonkin incident we will learn that it was "Stagged". Now they did not need to "actually" have dead people in the water because it was too far from home for anyone to actually see it.

I believe it is very possible.

If we look back to the all the gun violence on the boarder and the hype that most of the guns where coming from the US and the "2nd" was to blame... The hype stopped once "Fast and Furious" Program came to light. It was classic "The Hegelian Dialectic" but it back fired. And they really think we believe it was their goal was to give guns to drug dealer's "enforcement" as a way to catch drug the dealers?
