  • 10 worse places to live in the U.S.

    10. Baxley, Georgia
    9. Fort McCoy, Florida
    8. Asheboro, NC
    7. Florala, FL
    6 Dewitt, IA

    Ooops, now sorry that's incorrect!

    1. El Centro, CA
    2. Cleveland, OH
    3. Detroit, MI
    4. Lost Wages, NV
    5. OKC
    6. Lost Angels, CA
    7. Fenix, AZ
    8. Newark, NJ armpit of America- NJ doesn't trust you to have assault rifles or make left hand turns
    9. Miami, FL Home of the "negotiator" ;)
    10. Memphis, TN

Only one of those cities has a population LESS than 250,000

"No but you see you'll do BETTER in a city during an economic collapse because....."

"Don't be one of these idiots that think the country is safer, everyone knows the city is the safest place and the government will "ensure health and safety" during emergencies in the city."

    ROTFLMAO.

Folks, it always has and always will come down to a numbers game. That simple formula is :

Less people around you, less potential for trouble.

Looks like maybe the cities AREN'T the best place to be during economic problems.....

Now there is a novel idea..... :)

I look at those surveys, along with the ones listing the 10 best places to live, and shake my head. The best place to live is one in which you feel secure in your person and possessions, and the worst place to live is one in which you don't. I live in a city that made the "10 best" for several years in a row, and I lived in a small house in the middle of a bad area. This place hasn't been great to me, but I'm surviving. I still live in a bad area, but nobody bothers me. I worry about getting broken into, but that's why I bought the gun safe. (I know, a knowledgeable burglar can walk right through one of those, but a knowledgeable burglar won't be shopping in this area.) Before here I spent 9 years in the barrio in San Antonio, and NEVER felt safe there, even after putting the bars on the windows. The main reason I moved here was because I knew in my heart that if I stayed there, I was going to end up killing somebody. Life is too short to spend it in prison for killing some jerk who, although he desperately needed killing, didn't need it from me. I tend to agree with the numbers theory. Fewer people = fewer problems, although I will say that I grew up in a small town, and there were a couple of families who caused a LOT of problems. At least there you knew where it was coming from. It makes a difference. In a large city, it can come from anywhere.

In my mind, safety comes from being self-reliant. The more things I have to depend on others for, the more is out of my hands. I don't want to 'hope' the government shows up and brings me my weekly ration.

It is hard to be self-reliant in a city.

I'm laughing at the OKC listing because they are fat. Uh they are fat because the economy didn't die here like everywhere else and unemployment is less than most places in the nation. It has been tough and we took a hard hit in my family on the jobs but we Okies learned our lesson and hard in the early 80s about economics.
OKC proper is not a great place to live and is no different than any other city for our purposes.
I personally am happy they are fat, it betters my odds that #1 they can't make it to me in a collaspe and #2 I have a good chance of escape or working over a fat boy in an event. Remember that 1 minute drill I spoke of:)

The very worse has got to be Detroit! Detroit is dangerous even for the rich. However, L.A., & Miami are close seconds. In fact, Florida, below Orlando is trying real hard to get to number one on the list.

              LOL - OKC too obese.

The crime rates in all cities are atrocious. They are the worse places on the planet to live during good times. In bad times they only get worse.

I'll have to say that I would take OKC over any other city that I've been to except possibly Boise, Idaho. I have been to LA, The San Francisco Bay Area, San Diego, Portland (Or.), Memphis, Nashville, Mobile, Tallahassee, Orlando, Atlanta, Reno, Las Vegas, Salt Lake City, Denver, Kansas City (both) Joplin, Tulsa, and others that I can't think of at the moment. I would not live in any of them: that being said, I actually live about 130 miles from the closest metropolitan area (Amarillo), and that's the way I like it.

I am surprised Atlanta did not make the list. Baxley is a nice town, as long as Homer Simpson doesn't let the nuclear plant start glowing.
I think I remember some talk about the "negotiator". I did not realize he lived that far down the state. I don't think he will make it this far north with his gameplan.
