  • Remember the Dork From Doomsday Preppers

I remembered this bucktoothed lardbutt and his homemade bodyarmor.

Exactly why I dislike being called a prepper.

to think less than 20 years ago some of us were saying the exact same thing...except using survivalist...and all the newbs pressed so hard in the early 2k's to get away from that "stigma" ...only to fall right into the media trap the btdt have the shirts tried to warn them about....

In the early 80's I was branded a "survivalist"..... didn't like that either.

          thats my point.

when "prepper" started showing up,,being repeated so many were on the " survivalist" is a bad word...which is why many (who were newbs and honestly..not of the same cloth as folks from the past) wanted to grasp and rally around it. but since most are newbs they fell into the same media pit fall and are now in the same boat.

          PMI- preparedness minded individual

feel free to spread it around after prepper wears out lmao!

I've never considered myself a prepper. I'm just a responsible husband and father. Everyone seems to want to label things and say their one of the 'group'. Crossfit is kind of in the same boat. It's the new fad, kind of like 'prepping'. Although, I guess the reason why doesn't matter as long as people are trying to take care of themselves or be healthier. Both of which the subject of the OP wasn't good at.

You don't call a person who has insurance an insurancer, or a person who has a fire extinguisher an extinguisherer.

If we want to be ready for any problems that may befall us can't we just be called SMART?

I hate labels we place on others and ourselves. Today my grandparents would be considered "preppers"... But in their day they were the normal.

What we should really ask is why does a someone who wants to be personally responsible and/or self-reliant/self-sufficient need to get labeled, while those "adults" that want to have "Uncle Sam" as the responsible care giver don't need to be labeled.

I think in this country we have very few adults (those that are personally responsible) and lots of adolescent teens (old enough to produce income and offspring but NOT adult enough to want to be personally responsible for themselves). Those 35+ year olds that act like a 15 year old did of the pre 1960's... I am in this 35ish age range and realize that while my behavior is still not that of my grandparents, it is better than most of my peers...

I suppose that means we won't be getting the specs and blue prints for that home made body armor. Darn.

LOL! Did you see the bodyarmor? I had to turn channels it was so stupid. The producers HAD to put him on to make anyone associated with prepping loook stupid.
