above I mentioned the names of some coin dealers.. I withdraw any recommendations.
    or endorsements....
if you have a question contact me...
beware of any coin transaction on the street or at a show...
I've been "burned" big time twice now...
being burned has one good side... the burned individual learns a good lesson.

bottom line... if you are buying a number of coins, look at each one individually to confirm details..

RR- feel free to tell about what happened. If someone is out there juking people out of money, that needs to be known.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

        thanks admin.
the problem is I don't know who..
I suspect a certain dealer, but ?? and I carry responsibility for my loss too. I should have checked the coins better.
I think I had one of the coins that were 'wrong' in my hand before the purchase!
        --
I'm going to start a thread on silver and hopefully get some help with it from others...
maybe all who are interested can learn from my mistakes and
        I can learn more!!

            there are two stories...
            1.. the old one...
I bought a bag of 90% with a note ... on the bag, nicely written was the face value, a date and an unreadable signature.
I checked a several of the coins. they were all pre 65 the amount was not checked. I didn't count them..
the friendly salesman that I'd seen before..said..." I checked this bag myself. the amount is correct. I gurantee it!!
I paid him the amount times what ever our agreed to factor was.... he'd turned it down a couple of times.. I felt good.

a couple of years later I sat down to roll all the coins... THE AMOUNT OF COINS WAS WRONG.... the amount was a good bit less.
if I'd sat down and counted them at the show, I would not have had the financial loss.

2.. Orlando.. again I was looking for 90% before the show a friend who knows more than me had told me that his favorite dealer had some silver eagles. he wanted 24/each... I offered 23. nope. then a day later friend called and dealer accepted. I worked deal through friend. fair deal. friend brought coins to Orlando. I bought some additional coins from same dealer. good price.. friendly.
bought some more silver eagles. some were painted. got them for 21.50 very good deal. later that day (I stopped back at this dealer and he had purchased a small bag of 90% halves. we agreed on price. I stuck hand in bag and checked some.
            I'd had 2 good deals from dealer... I didn't count.... I didn't check dates... I got home.
HALF THE BAG WAS KENNEDY HALVES AND NOT 1964. THESE COINS ARE 40% SILVER AND NOT 90%
2 problems... I'm 90% sure I bought these coins from this dealer. I'm not 100% but the main problem is I should have sat down and looked at each coin... my own blessed fault. 40% kennedy halves are are worth about 3.50 or so.. 90% halves are worth about 7.50 or so...

coin dealers aren't any more (or less) honest than any other business out there.

the rest of the story. I called dealer (that I think sold them) and discussed with them... then scanned them a small handwritten note that was in the bag suggesting/asking that the handwriting belonged to someone at the dealer.. they said no. not them. I bought from several dealers and met some other folks there. several hands could have been involved...
same dealer was at coin show this weekend in my state. prices were up a little from Orlando. they had some 90%
in a sealed up bag and labeled with face value of dimes and face value of quarters... we negotiated price. it was best price at show that I could find. then I asked to count.. they "guaranteed" amount.. I smiled and advised again that I would need to count. we used his fancy dancy coin counter. dimes were 3 short. quarters were 2 short. it was a lot of coins. they seemed a little emabarassed, making a comment that some of coins were slim (meaning worn and therefore hadn't been counted- ) but added the coins to make count proper. I hand counted when I got home. machine was correct.

so. I don't know who sold me the bad halves. I think I do. bottom line... count the blessed things either using a heavy duty coin counter or sit at a table and stack them up! before you pay.
and make sure you are getting the coin denomination/age range/you are trading on! before you pay.

              Thanks for the clarification.

              Very good advise.

I usually buy in much smaller quantities, 100 dimes or so give or take so its a lot easier to count right there at the counter.

100 dimes is still a large purchase.
folks were asking 16 to 16.5 x face...
we were buying if the guy would take 15x...
several folks told me that 14.8 was a common offer.

all, i just realized that 100 dimes equals 2 rolls..
2 rolls of dimes ($10.00 of pre 65 dimes) will bring 150 to 160 bucks.
that's not anywhere near a handful of dimes.
hmm. bottle of coke cost me a dime in the machine... when i was a kid.
lots of times I'd just stand there wishing i had a dime to get me a nice cold coke.

I've sold and bought using 90% and .999 % and silver dollars... it's a funny feeling.
sold a nice range bag at recent swap meet for 1 silver dollar...
