this weekend... anybody going...??
I've been to a couple of small 30 to 40 dealer shows. never anything with this many dealers.

looking for advice.
my interests are 90 %, silver dollars of the cull variety, and eagles.
is there a certain type bullion coin that will probably have good value?
certain dealers to look for?
certain types of dealers?
how do you scope out dealers in a hurry...
(if there are only 30 dealers then you can talk to them all!!)
there will be hundreds in Orlando.
I'm looking for the guys with walmart or kmart blue light specials..
suggestions?

any florida (or ga or al) folks going?

rr i would advise you that if possible spend 2 days. I went to this one in 2006 and it was huge,always sells out of vendor space. I had been to lots of shows with 50-100 dealers but this show was biggest i ever been to..you will enjoy it. One word of caution tho if you buy any key date coins i would advise u to buy those certified by 3 rd party as authenic. I almost got burnt on a 1909-s vdb lincoln penney (the key date) the dealer let me take it over to ANACS table and the guy told me it wasnt authenic,glad i did. On yhe same rip i did manage some 90& best deals i found there was Silvertown,a big dealer from Indiana,they have lots of silver rounds,90% and ect. Try to find a dealer who has a good amount of junk silver coins just laying out in his display case. If most of his setup is individual coins in plastic pockets then he is a coin dealer not a pm guy. When you find a junk coin or pm dealer be sure and ask him what % over spot you are paying and which coins have a premium. Walk the entire show then go back to the individual tables you are interested in at bigger shows competition between dealers can be stiff FIND the deal be careful though don't take too long as others are deal hunting also

a fellow named boggs from tenn. does an excellent Lincoln impersonation... involved in the opening ceremonies and gave the Gettysburg address.
being an old southern fellow. I advised him of his horrible prisons. how they abused some of my relatives... he told me about Andersonville.

it was a little too warm!! pipes are freezing at home.. I gave up on the boonie hat after a while. northern customers were abundant.. I had long talks with a fellow from maine. another from Virginia.
many dealers from ca. penn. ny, nj, ia, tx. also many from Europe, wife says she saw a booth from india. huge. there are parts of the show, we still haven't gotten by.

every booth had someone in a chair, it seemed. obvious that many attendees had brought coins, metals, currency to sell. I wondered why so many attendees had these little roll around suitcases and briefcases. now I know... they used them to haul in their loot to sell. to haul in their cash, and to haul out their bullion! no way to tell what a guy was hauling. great idea. the show passed out cloth bags to collect brochures, and purchases... I saw some guys carrying out bags bulging with coins... probably 90% or eagles or ? not a good security situation. yep the rolling suitcases were the way to go.

a couple of dealers got my attention.
Gainesville coins had a large booth and a constant flow of customers. most buying. prices seemed goodl
southern ?? at about booth 410 just a small booth, but constantly buying. ask for corey or bruce... very helpful. offices in Chattanooga and macon ga. tell 'em an old guy with whiskers sent you. yep. the guy with the wife. obvious that they had good connections with other booths. I liked that.

several booths all the guys had on suits. those booths had high prices!

several booths had fancy brochures and wanted to talk about their leasing programs??? huh? give us your pm to hold and we'll lease it out, giving you a monthly return. I didn't understand this.

I saw 90% go for around 15.5 some asked 16. if the dealer was from a long way off, doubtful that they would have junk... too burdensome to transport. local dealers that drove in more likely to have
silver dollars/eagles/90%. as one dealer told me... "this booth cost me 1500. I can't spend time with low margin stuff. I've got to bring my high margin coins." makes sense.

rumor had it that one dealer set up, then the sheriff came and took him off, and closed down booth??? no confirmation on that, and I didn't know the rumor teller... just a guy in the hall.

I didn't know so many dealers, customers were into collecting currency.

thats on the west/south side of o-town...better there than at the fair grounds where the gun shows are. security would have had to be tight for that area.
that ao is where the high end of orlando is....still a dump /death trap if you ask me.
you should get with local dealers while down here or your way back. that may help with your junk silver its how i got mine.

Yeah if it had been the fairgrounds like Protus said it would have a really high chance of getting jacked- the whole show. Think Bokhara Market in Black Hawk Down, only no Delta coming to rescue.

the proper name is southern precious metals exchange. they are based in Chattanooga, but have a location in macon ga..
I asked a contact (he came to a ga campout and made a donation several years ago but hasn't been back) for more info...
I thought it was a big coin shop... nope. very small, but has sources and buys/trades. bottom line - real good deals.
there was a Columbus ga dealer that had good prices too. for junk. Idc I think was name.

i bought junk years ago. just looked around online,,yellow pages etc. then called ahead to ask. saved gas that way. local guy had junk and rounds,bars etc. price was fair. rounds ran me 9.25 per oz. junk silver was face value +1$. so 1.25 per coin. so i blew my wad on rounds and with the last 30-50$ blew that on junk.

sides that i just pick up a coin here or there..thats it. but sometimes you'll find a guy in town that has what you want need and prices are cheaper .. spot was 9$ i think back then or 8.95$..

you could have easily sold your 90% for 15 x face. and if you worked hard, maybe gotten 15.5 to 16
you could have sold rounds for 20.50 to 21.00 easily
