  • Minimum wage....

It looks like people are asking the federal government to regulate businesses more.

One quote from the article I thought was note worthy,
"2014 is poised to be a turning point," Temple says. "States are seeing the unemployment rate is going down but job growth is disproportionately concentrated in low-wage industries. (They're) frustrated that Congress is dragging its feet."

Wage and salary should not be an issue that Congress needs to address. The open labor market needs to drive the "wage" number.

If this keeps up, a trip to McDonald's is going to run $15 per person (if inflation doesn't get us there first), not many people are going to pay that. Then we will be right back in a similar situation where businesses won't be making enough revenue due to the market not supporting their retail prices.

If the mandatory minimum wage keeps going up, be prepared to see price increases all over the place. The phrase "buy it cheap and stack it deep" has never been more true.

What people have apparently forgotten is that every time the minimum wage was raised, consumer prices followed.

This, and the often-overlooked factor that everyone misses is that most union salaries are tied to a baseline minimum wage. So if the minimum wage is raised, so are all of the union wages which equals a huge payback to the real folks that bought the last election.

      Merry Farging Christmas, folks...

These folks working at Micky D's, who want $15/hr, will price themselves right out of a job... If fast-food prices spike to high, more people will just pack a lunch from home... It's ALWAYS cheaper to make your lunch at home anyway.

What people need to remember is businesses make money. That is their job no matter if it's a small "mom and pop" or "mega giant" box store. If their business costs go up so will their prices. Some can absorb some minor changes, but most will eventually just raise prices.

Most sheeple just don't see this though. They feel bad that their next door neighbor has a four year degree in "letters" and is making minimum wage at the local coffee hut. "They deserve more because they have a new car, mortgage, baby expenses, and student loans...AND they have a four year degree. They can't make enough money to pay their expenses without a raise in minimum wage." is what I hear often. Then I usually reply, well they have the latest iPhone, iPad, plasma TV, BMW and four bed-two bath home in that swanky subdivision. I guess that "letters" degree isn't paying off.

Yes, there is a degree in Arts and Letters. My nephew has one and is working at a local coffee house serving coffee.

I don't see it either. I worked hauling tin up to rooftops and welding when I got out of high school for $5.15/hr. I got a raise to $7.15/hr and paid my own bills. I didn't have a cell phone at the time because I couldn't afford it. I've read by candle light and kept the doors and windows open in the summer time because I couldn't pay my electric bill. I was embarrassed but never thought anyone owed me more. It made me work harder. If I saw someone with a nice vehicle, I said 'that's awesome!', And it made me want to work for it! I've worked my way up over the years, learned a trade and make a good living now. It's called pride. People don't have it anymore. They want everything handed to them. I'm very blessed to have the success I've had, but I believe I'm blessed because I've sacrificed and worked for it and continue to. It's not easy, no one said it would be, but its there for the taking, for ANYONE.

I was listening to one of the talk stations the other day. One of the burger companies said that if the min wage went to $15/hr. they would immediately close some of the lower producing stores. They also said that they would plan to close all of their stores by the end of 12 months.

There is a new catch phrase being used by Washington as well. It's call "mincome" for minimum income. All workers would be paid this new mincome. I wonder how that is going to work for all the people who are going to be cut back to 30 hrs./week? Two of my family members, one is 21, and one is 50 have been put on notice of their new part-time status as a result of the "affordable care act." The older one has also been dropped from his current self-paid insurance policy. He's looking now, but so far, it's going to cost $200/month more for a minimum policy. Add that to the 10 hr./week cut in hours and he will have to take on a second job if he can find one.

Gosh, that's a good quote! Sadly, it's true.

I saw a picture of the new way McD's will sell burgers....wait for it....it's a touch screen computer that you tap the pic of what you want and place your order. All those high school college kids working there will lose their job.
