  • Why put yourself at a disadvantage when it comes to the weather...

One of the main tenets of Survival is to have shelter. I feel the primary and sometimes the last line of shelter is the clothes you wear.

Here in my part of the country it is about 20 degrees outside with about two inches of snow on the ground.

I made a run out to the grocery store this morning. As I am making my way to the front door another person is walking in. He is wearing tennis shoes with ankle socks, shorts, a t-shirt and a baseball cap. If that is what you want to wear, go for it; I can't figure out why though.

Any small hick-up in this guys travel plans will put him in the hurt locker to the elements.

Be smart and stay warm out there, not everyone is.

I see this a lot driving over Snoqualmie to Seattle. Kids & those that should know better dressed for 80 degrees, getting stopped and needing to put on chains in their flip flops. Sometimes the pass closes for several hours and a good majority are not ready. Stupid.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

On another site there was a question posed to everyone.... in a survival situation whats is more important: food, shelter, fire or water.

      I answered shelter. Duh.
My reply was "even in a non survival situation I want shelter first. I'd rather be cool, warm, dry, etc while I think about going after food, fire or water.

I wont lie though, I am the guy that wears shorts in the cold. But, with it never truly getting cold here it doesnt bother me as much. If I was traveling further than my 30 mile zone, I wouldnt be wearing them though.
You know what ol' Jack Burton always says at a time like this?

I guess I should clarify. I don't mind that folks wear comfortable cloths on trips. But it really bothers me when they don't have appropriate clothing for the weather with them.
Clothing is the "shelter" you walk around in.
