  • Out of the mouthes of babes...

Last Wednesday evening we were preparing for a nasty storm that was supposed to arrive mid-day on Thursday. By preparing, I mean I stopped at WMart and picked up a few things we wanted, nothing we couldn't do without. When we go there, DS was astonished at the number of cars in the parking lot. He asked what was going on, and I explained most of the people were stocking up for the storms. They were afraid they would lose electricity, water, etc. He looked at me and said, "I am so glad we have the Apocalypse room." Cracked me up. I usually refer to it as our storage room or something similar.

We went in the store and grabbed a gallon of milk, a few other items and went to pick up a loaf of bread. The shelves were bare. So, I shrugged my shoulders and went home and made a couple loaves of bread. No big deal. People were freaking out.

Exactly...the ants have nothing to fear of winter.

At least he understands what that room is for!

And he verbalized that knowing his parents are prepared provided security and peace of mind. As is to be expected from the grasshoppers anyone who prepares for uncertain times is crazy and if they teach their children the virtue of preparedness well they are guilty of instilling fear and paranoia into the young mind. Ridicule and demonizing are great coping tools for those who can't or won't face reality. They aren't naive or out of touch with reality, WE ARE!! There see all better, now I don't need to take any action at all and I can go about my life of consumption blissfully ignorant. Until the storm comes at least.

Thanks, it great when those moments come up and show that the teaching is working. I like to call ours the insurance room.
Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Well, thus far we have missed seven days of school. Another snow storm last night - very unusual for the snow to stay one so long, even in the dead of winter, much less mid December. Chores have been, well, a big chore.

We did not lose electricity, though we would have been fine if we had. Not happy, but fine. lol One of our milk goats freshened, so it won't be long until I can thumb my nose at store bought milk again.

There is a great deal of peace in being prepared.

On a sad note, our calf that was almost ready to butcher got hung up in a fence and died. Stinks, a lot.
