As a ex EMT & my wifes is a ARNP I can't stress washing your hands often, enough. Especially after being out in public and touching public surfaces. Use good old soap and water. I've read one report concerning the anti-bacterial hand sanitizer not working as well as expected & may actually cause problems, by giving folks a false sense of being clean.Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Good point EX121. Anti-bacterial soap is also a concern, many a Biology Instructors have expressed the concern over creating super bugs from using anti-bacterial soap (the issue lies with the anti-bacterial part losing its potency kind of like not completing the antibiotic regimen prescribed by the doctor). Regular soap and water is the best. Of course a person could always dunk their hands in bleach and then in alcohol.....not very practical though...I am being facetious of course."It's a trap!!!!" -- Admiral Ackbar

Actually elittle a 10% bleach solution is what we use to clean up bloody equipment. While not practical to carry with you it's good to keep in mind. But i like your image of buckets of bleach & alcohol in public places. Now back to that other type of Alcohol e2Oh.Survival question. What do I need most, right now?

Ex121- OH reminds me of Organic Chem class...:) I loved chemistry. Anything with an OH attached to it is some form of alcohol.
Having some blood born pathogens training is a good idea also to be current on Hep. B is a plus."It's a trap!!!!" -- Admiral Ackbar

a very adaptable gene that hitches onto many types of common germs and confers broad drug resistance, creating dangerous "superbugs."

The alcohol based hand sanitizers are next to worthless (except to kids who have found they can get drunk by licking the stuff off their hands). It will kill germs - but only if you soak in it for a minimum of 20 minutes, by which time of course your hands will be pickled LOL. The old stand-by - "green soap", and Grandma's "lye" soap (which is easily made) is still the best.
