  • ikea visit was that templar and mannlicher?

I heard that ikea had a new portable shelter..
a college kid kept telling me what deals ikea had.

I think I saw Templar loading his truck with this box that filled up truck bed.
I tried to say "hi" but temp was concentrating on something... better than mannlicher. now mine will be better than mannlicher ....
I don't think he even saw me...
    then...
there went this gray bearded guy racing in the door, asking for the refugee department..
saying something to the effect... gotta get me one of those... i'll need it in florida... gonna be cold.
and more than that .... Templar ain't gonna have one... yep, gonna have a better shelter than Templar...
    sure looked like mannlicher!

    hmm.
maybe I just dreamed all that.
but.. it would be nice to have at a cold campout!

Mighty brave talk from a no-shower...That wasn't me, I'm waiting on the heat pump version...Mannlicher's has a custom knife/axe/sword rack on the porch...

Anyone remember RR showing up at camp with a three-room Taj Mahal??? It took 10 of us to set it up...LOL

        Regards,
        Templar

          miked,
          sorry about that.
Templar has got awesome gear.... at a campout if you want to know what you oughta (ga spelling for should) buy, you check out Templar's stuff.
and mannlicher is a very close second... sometimes mannlicher will show with something that is 1 step above Templar... but, be assured that situation won't be allowed to last long!! lol.

Templar's post about me refers to a huge tarp that we used for cover. and any old piece of tarp/tent/canvas I could find to make sides at a campout when it was supposed to be cold.... it was cold... somewhere between 15 and17 degrees. Templar may be remembering the couple that showed up with a storebought huge community tent with multiple rooms, that did take 10 of us to put up. mine was bigger, but no rooms and looked like a refugee camp.

anyhow, if you or others are anywhere near Georgia or florida come on down to our next campout... there's one in florida next week!!

oh yeah... one ole geezer had a bad case of bronchitis/cold/sinusitis/ and it was supposed to be freezing in florida. that ole geezer brought a white ez up canopy with sides. set it up, then set up a regular tent under the ez up trying to cut down on wind and cold.
I forgot his name... sheesh... getting crs. lol. it looked funny, but was effective!

and of course there's 2 macho fellas who sleep on the ground, on top of a piece of plastic and under a small piece of silk, they call a tarp! in the freezing weather... that's ok... age catches up with everybody!!

so, I expect these ikea shelters just might show up at a "Survival and Preparedness" campout some day!!

I wonder... what if you bought some 3/8 plywood and dug up some scrap 2x material... hmmm. gonna check the scrap pile out behind the apartment building!

                  protus,
I like it!! the small tent I took to ga was an instant tent but not nearly this big.. sure was a lot easier than normal...
hmm... maybe you are posting this because a few of those OTHER fellas are getting some gray hairs and need to take the stress out of their camping experience!! good idea and considerate... lol.

                  Templar,
this is the idea that was in my head with the plywood... except I would have had a sloped shed roof or a gable roof and rectangular shaped structure...
let's do it!! I read a bunch of the instructions...
                  clothing optional.... NOPE.. lol
but, throw some money together. bring a bunch of panels and tape. pass out the instructions before the trip..
workers will know what they are to do..
at end of camp, we have auction. high bidder takes it home. money divided proportionately among investors.
then we do it again at the next campout. or... one guy pays for materials, and he takes it home.
the guy who takes it home could add some plywood or plastic panels over the insulation board and have extra sleeping quarters in the event of an emergency!!
bottom line... I make a motion we make this a "class" at the spring campout.
