  • Winter is upon us Southerners

Winter is now creeping up (well the first branch of it anyway).

Friendly reminder to do your winter prepping. Not talking about neato burrito gear but more or less home and vehicle checks.

Since this is our first winter in casa de wiseowl I have had to check all the windows and doors for good seal. If it gets really bad I will plastic the windows with some thick plastic from my paint dept at work. Already have a roll with some to spare.
Check your chimney, make sure you can see daylight up it and make sure (using a flashlight) that its not clogged with bruce waynes.
Check your furnace, make sure it works well before it starts to get cold.
Make sure you have your pipes insulated and make sure no small leaks.
Big one for us was make sure you have enough wood. If worse came to worse I have backup pallets and plenty of dead stuff on the property but still. We have been building fires the last week and mowed through our first batch quicker that we thought. Good to have a couple of stacks dried and covered.
Luckily I am going this weekend to someones house with a huge oak thats been down a year. With the 4 day weekend, one day will be splitting.
Make sure you have other sources of heat for warmth and for cooking.
Make sure of have plenty of soup, coffee, cocoa and other stews.

For the vehicle, I know most folks have an uber bug out killer bag, time to go over it and make sure its winter ready.
I know I added some small blankets and wool socks to all 3 vehicles. Also, some sterno fuel cans to use to boil water or a small fuel canned stove.
I also added quite a few packs of hot hands. I broke down in 10 degrees before on I-40 for 12 hours and these were the lifesavers.
A couple of extra winter hats and gloves.
I now keep my winter hiking boots in the vehicle that I drive to work. 30 mile commute but could be longer in the if and my work boots arent as cozy as my Hi-Tec ice trail destroyers

I know for most of you this isnt your first rodeo but its still good to do a quick check before the real old man winter arrives

Another good thing to do is pull the firearms out and clean them if you dont already.

    Hope everyone is doing well!
