  • Oath Keepers Goes Operational

I don't know how you guys feel about Oath Keepers but it seems as though they "get" it and are trying to get everyone trained.

I have mixed feelings on them and know several. In many principles I agree however there are things I do not agree with. I have had conversations in that respect but they seem to get very wound up which makes me withdraw and question the quality of the membership. I would like to learn more

    Operational, ok, hmm
There is a large number of support people (left blank for a reason) that support each person on an A Team, Seal Team or Delta as well as the other operators. Do they have that for their so called A-Team? Do they have the physical logistical resupply available? If not it will be very short lived after the battle begins. Like many "teams" I have encountered they will have serious issues due to the atypical tactics being resorted to. There are better ways IMO in successful limited support small unit operations but you will have to look outside the American military models.

I do consider it offensive for someone to make their own "tab" pretending to be "special" when in fact they did not earn it. Those tabs are reserved for the real soldiers who earn them not for joeblow who thinks they can buy their way into special. They are not operators. Supposedly these are all military or former military and they should know better than to disrespect a tabbed position like that as it takes great sacrifice and effort to earn them. This is an immature and unrealistic approach to someone who is missing something in a sad effort to gain attention. Real people who do special things do not need replicating advertisements as it is readily apparent and known.

In their effort to get everyone trained and prepared that is good

        Thanks for the reply Matt.

I know very little about Oath Keepers. I do like the idea of keeping the oath that you take upon entering the service. If everyone took the oath at its word there'd be little chance of any troops being "used" by the .gov.

I just thought the article was interesting in the way that they thought things could play out.

What I find interesting about them is that when they were in the military they were trustworthy but now that they are out the military is no longer trustworthy and THEY will save the day. When they were in did THEY not do what what they were supposed to and teach the soldiers to uphold the law?

Warning, I have never been in the Military and don't spend much time with those that are currently in the Military... So this is an outside looking in but My grandparents were life time military and many of my uncles were life time military too.

            #1. Times change:
What was once a great institution can change into something run by thugs... Good Leaders retire and political figures can pull in people with other motives.

            #2. With Age comes Wisdom:
Even if the mil is the same today as it was when you joined... Maybe your view of what is good and bad has changed.

Those are just 2 reasons that someone may have changed their mind as to what is trust worthy and not.

As far as those groups creating "special" teams... I dont know about you are not but I would consider most of our founding fathers as "special" teams but yet most where not Mil or Ex-Mil... Just because they may not have been part of a official "Special" teams does not mean they were not "Special Forces". The Special Forces have made great sacrifice to earn the badge not that they completed some course during training...

Mark Twain had said something about this:
“In the beginning of a change the patriot is a scarce man, and brave, and hated and scorned. When his cause succeeds, the timid join him, for then it costs nothing to be a patriot.”

These guys in Oath Keepers that took an oath for either Mil or LEO service realize that one day someone may abuse the authority and use mil and LEO for unlawful acts... So they took a "Clearer" oath as to what they would NOT do... They are making a CLEAR LINE in the sand so that they dont cross it while following orders.

The GERMAN soldiers were "JUST FOLLOWING ORDERS". Most people need a "Clear" line otherwise they follow the heard.

I think every person who took an oath to the defend the constitution (you took an oath not defend that the piece of paper but to laws within it) should re-read the constitution. And then read what Oath Keepers' Oath is...

I am very thankful for all those that serve in the mil and as LEO... But I am especially thankful that take that OATH so seriously to study what they took an Oath to. And even more thankful for those that feel it prudent to re-affirm their stance by taking the "Oath Keepers' Oath".

            THANK YOU OATH KEEPERS

I have met members of the Oath Keepers here in AZ. Like Matt, I am not really sure how to take them as a whole. I was never in the military but I was born in an Army hospital and lived the first 14 years of my life on military bases all around the country and in Germany. My general take on the group is they are sincere in their beliefs but not to the extreme. If the SPLC finds them to be worrisome then seem to be okay with me. After all, the SPLC labeled the Family Research Center a hate group.

I do not confuse the Oath Keepers with the militia groups we've got here in AZ. I have met quite a few "militia-types" here in AZ at various prepper-fests and Meetups. For the most part they are little more than pot-bellied blowhards who talk tough and act stupidly. In August, one such fellow decided to challenge a couple Maricopa County Sheriff's deputies out in the desert at night. He drew down on them with his rifle and would not relinquish his weapon after the deputies identified themselves. He's now sitting in a Maricopa County jail on aggravated assault charges. Another guy I met at a prepper-fest told me he had suggested to one of his potential MAG members that he and his wife would have to "86" their Downs syndrome baby because the baby would be unnecessary baggage in a PAW setting. Needless to say after that story I did not carry on too many conversations with the guy.

This is pretty much just anecdotal so take it for what it is worth.
"One cannot but ponder the question: what if the Arabs had been Christians? To me it seems certain that the fatalistic teachings of Mohammed and the utter degradation of women is the outstanding cause for the arrested development of the Arab. He is exactly what he was around the year 700, while we have kept on developing. Here, I think, is a text for some eloquent sermon on the virtues of Christianity." - General George S. Patton, diary, June 9, 1943.

Our founding fathers had special teams but were not special team. It doesn't detract from who you are and what you do. Once again real people don't need to steal advertisements. Our founding fathers do not need tabs and were special in their own way but were not special forces.
I have 20 military and 16 LEO have not only simply worded the oath but lived it since 19 and don't wear "special" pretender tabs I didn't earn

And more than likely, the guy himself that said that was next to worthless himself.

That shiiite doesn't bode well with me and people that say stupid stuff like that don't realize all that means is that they are probably going to fall on a knife 18 times backwards in the PAW. If they feel the down syndrome baby isn't worth saving, they will find a reason why you are yours aren't "worth saving." Unfortunately you can't trust people like that. But in reality, most that say stupid crap like that are just idiot wanna be's that are out of shape, untrained, poorly disciplined and have no hope of surviving themselves. So I usually pay that sort of crap little credence.
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

I totally agree. It's guys like that who make me wonder if the producers of shows like Doomsday Preppers and Doomsday Castle actually attempt to make preppers look bad. For example, the guy who shot his thumb off in an episode Doomsday Preppers.... he's like a cult hero at the prepper fests here in AZ. I just don't get it. I've been to his website. I've seen his products. I am not impressed with the guy. In fact, I was laughing my butt off when I saw the episode where he shot his thumb off.
