  • Can your family survive this?

I thought this was a great example of a survival situation.

I know there are a lot of people that are "preppers" or "survivalists". Out of the people in those categories, how many carry concealed? How many live in a state where you're allowed to openly carry a firearm? Honestly, those questions don't have a whole lot to do with this subject. A little, but not a lot. If the father in this situation was carrying a weapon, he possibly could have used it to stop the assault. Maybe he pulls the gun, warns and it's over without firing a round. Maybe he drops an aggressor, attempts another, his weapon is taken and he's killed. Another chance is that he's taking care of the situation, has tunnel vision and this enrages the others in the mob and they attack his family. There's countless scenarios that can be laid out here. The first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this was 'did the vehicle have a dedicated weapon mounted?' I think this family would've been a lot better off if both adults were carrying if possible and in my opinion, a ten year old should be able to handle a small firearm that's vehicle mounted in an extreme emergency. This of course, depends on maturity and weapons handling skills that ultimately falls back on the parents. This could have been a much, much worse outcome to this. It also could've ended a lot better. This is just another situation to learn from. Stay safe folks.

This is a very good example of "you will only have what you have" at the moment and up there you wont have anything

Very true. In my opinion, it falls on the parents. It's ultimately our responsibility to protect our children. I would think the parents would consider moving after this. I guarantee if Texas didn't give me the option, I'd be gone. For those people that can carry, but don't, think about a situation like this.

Also. If the driver would've stayed on the freeway, I think he'd have been a lot better off. Lesson to learn.

He was "carrying" - a 5000 lb weapon. Should have taken more of the pricks out...

i thought about this last night.
4 wheels vs two. 911 on the phone..the whole time. stay on free way. escape..slow only for leo. any 2 wheel crunchies get in the way to slow me,,well...rubbings racing boys clear the way.

to think about things even more.

guy i know (contractor) sister and bf/husband were out for a walk in my old town. they were approached by a white male, black male and one female. they were asked if they wanted any dope, they declined. white male haymakers the bf/husband he goes down. black guy decks sister .she goes down,,gets hit again by black male 1-3 times since she tried to fight back. pockets get searched,,phones and 6 $ is taken....the sister now has to have surgery to fix her face.............for 6 bucks.

For record sake if nothing else, one call to 911- "These people are driving crazy, smacking on the vehicle, have threatened us, I'm trying hard NOT to hit them but they are weaving in front of me crazily, it's going to be hard NOT to hit one of them, please send help"

The problem is often you can't disconnect from 911. So be careful that they don't hear "OOOHH! WE GOT ONE! YEEEESSS!" after that or "SCORE!" as you run them over. LOL
Boris- "He's famous, has picture on three dollar bill!"

Rocky- "Wow! I've never even seen a three dollar bill!"

Boris- "Is it my fault you're poor?"

Be armed, be trained, doors should be always locked(they just opened it at one point). Stay moving forwards, backwards whatever because when you stop that dang thing is a coffin just ask any returning troops. Lock the 4x in especially if they get your tires slashed as they did here. Know where you are and know where you can go

There are lessons here and I know some folks take issue with my line of thinking and thats fine as we are adults and must make choices.

This can still be applied to what you are going to do if you have to leave the vehicle. (Leave not get pulled out)

Max and I have differences however he does teach some valid things that can make you think and be applied to a situation like this.

XD this is a great topic and the weapon carry has everything to do with it IMO because the outcome and body count would have been vastly different with MIO with me still standing at the end

In that type of situation if you stop you are dead. I agree with call 911, stay on freeway and don't stop until the cops show up. I am sure that one of the links MIO posted was about being at a stop light with a person holding a sign for food/money/____ and how do you handle the situation and make sure to leave yourself room to maneuver.

Next best thing to the freeway is a large parking lot or open area where you are not limited to only moving forward along a predetermined path. Unfortunately this happened in NYC where guns for citizens are not allowed and the sheep are taught that NYPD will protect them.

What a about an AR pistol as a dedicated vehicle mounted weapon? As a person that carries a 1911, I would have been hard pressed to put down 20 threats. I usually have 24 rnds on me when I'm carrying a 1911, around 45 rnds when I'm carrying a 9mm. That, of course means reloading. I'm pretty good because of training but I'd still take not reloading over reloading any day. I haven't trained with an AR or AK pistol and wanted any feedback someone has with one. Another thought was a move theater. After the Colorado incident, where the shooter was wearing light armor, maybe a 556/223 would be a better, pack carried pistol option. Rock River is making a AR pistol without a buffer tube and AK pistols don't need them. Some people are going to say, head shots and I understand that line of thinking, but if you've never had someone point a gun at you, it's stressful like you won't believe. We're gonna be doing good to put hits center mass much less head shots across a crowded theatre in the dark. I wonder if a faster round, center mass, would be a little more forgiving than a pistol round in say a theater scenario with suspect wearing armor or the SUV vs Biker scenario where you've got 20+ threats? An AR/AK pistol would give you the round capacity without reloading. Thoughts?

Take this for what it's worth, it's only an opinion, but the only way you win taking on 20 attackers by yourself (without heavy weapons) is if at least 15 of them see the gun and run away. If they all decide to stay and fight you're toast. Yes, some of them will get hit, most of them will get you.

Totally understand. Im not saying anyone or myself is a cowboy. In my opinion though, it's prudent to consider the worst case scenario. It makes people rethink what they're doing and that's always good.
