I thought this was a great example of a survival situation.
I know there are a lot of people that are "preppers" or "survivalists". Out of the people in those categories, how many carry concealed? How many live in a state where you're allowed to openly carry a firearm? Honestly, those questions don't have a whole lot to do with this subject. A little, but not a lot. If the father in this situation was carrying a weapon, he possibly could have used it to stop the assault. Maybe he pulls the gun, warns and it's over without firing a round. Maybe he drops an aggressor, attempts another, his weapon is taken and he's killed. Another chance is that he's taking care of the situation, has tunnel vision and this enrages the others in the mob and they attack his family. There's countless scenarios that can be laid out here. The first thing that popped in my mind when I saw this was 'did the vehicle have a dedicated weapon mounted?' I think this family would've been a lot better off if both adults were carrying if possible and in my opinion, a ten year old should be able to handle a small firearm that's vehicle mounted in an extreme emergency. This of course, depends on maturity and weapons handling skills that ultimately falls back on the parents. This could have been a much, much worse outcome to this. It also could've ended a lot better. This is just another situation to learn from. Stay safe folks.
