Tourist Survival
I enjoy taking a vacation and getting away every once in a while. Like everyone else it has to be planned for certain times of the year it’s just that our reasons are different than many. It might be a short vacation down the road to the next town to a worldwide trek it doesn’t matter the goals are the same and that is to enjoy, relax, unwind and stay safe. That is tough when you half paranoid and into survival like me. Things happen though and I watched 2 disasters unfold on other vacationers and local populations as I was on vacation
We must remember that our rights are not the same across borders or sometimes even in the next sate
Looting
So when is it looting and when is it survival?
A moral dilemma for many to even take a loaf of bread but not so much for many as TVs and other items of “luxury” fall into hands of the greedy!
Do you wait until it becomes a matter of survival or do you act first so it doesn’t reach critical?
I’d like to hear some viewpoints on this and please keep it civil as viewpoints can really differ strongly on this subject and many are based on life experience. An example is this guy
Many are appalled by his taking things in destroyed buildings but I was there and did not consider them to be bad guys just people trying to survive by taking things from abandoned places rather than stealing from people as many were.
So with space at a premium while vacationing what do you take?
I take food, not huge amounts but stuff that doesn’t draw attention.

I take my water filter no matter where I’m going, no matter period!
You cannot beat this model for space and capabilities IMO
I carry my camelbak (empty when flying) and the platypus type collapsible water bottles to include the cheapo dollar store ones because if I need space and have to dump them it doesn’t hurt and sometimes they can be left as a “tip” to someone or traded as many parts of this world don’t have these type of resources.
Things TSA will allow on carry on are the fire steels and a small container of tender, P38 can opener, cordage on a keychain, emergency dental kit, non areosol bug spray, medical kit http://www.jrhenterprises.com/Tactic...-Tactrauma.htm however I did remove the tweezers and scissors, just to avoid the possible hassle, and placed them in my checked bags, sam splint, canteen cup, plastic flatware, waterproof pelican box with 550 cord, duct tape, flashlight, headlamp, hand warmers, fishing kit tin, 550 cord bracelet, second fire starter in my case a little sparkie in case I’m injured and only have one good arm, charcloth in the wallet, bandanna, carabineers, plastic raingear, gortex, change of wool socks, small container of Gold Bond powder, binoculars and many times night vision (NOT a military style that WILL get you into trouble in foreign countries) and all of this will fit compactly into your carry on and in your pockets and of possible I make it my tourist type backpack rather than the tacticool ones so again not to draw unwanted attention and the above items will go about anywhere and not violate other countries laws. This stuff shouldn’t raise to many alarms or eyebrows and it all can make a difference is your survivability in the bad stuff.

Checked baggage can have the pocket tools, knives, firearms etc. depending on where you are going or you can mail it ahead sometimes.
