I read that this morning as well and although the author MAY be correct in SOME of the predictions I have a hard time taking these types seriously. Not because I don't agree with some of what they say for me its more that they lose credibility because the entire article is nothing more than a ad.. He hammers buy more food, buy more food which I TOTALLY agree with then at the end of the fear mongering placed very conveniently for the newbies and soccer moms to find is a link to their advertiser who sells.... you guessed it long term food storage and non hybrid seeds. It's a real difficult ledge to walk when you sell survival related items, LD3 knows what im talking about. Maybe im being to hard on the guy because I think a good portion of what he says makes sense and he offers some good advice but it also comes off as a scare piece to sell product IMO..

justanothergunnut actually hits on a point that I recently spoke with another member here about and that is sales. I had this conversation after he bashed all the SWAT teams in America but had nothing to say after the recent successful rescues because it didn't sell school slots. It was so obvious it was sad.

Many people make up stuff, recite the worst case scenario, have acid trips or whatever and will try to sell you stuff. After all if we don't have fantastic emergencies or dismal threats we don't need this stuff right?
Wrong but the majority of sales come from impulse Oh Sh.. or OMG I gotta have moments for many items.

The second part of this is importance. There is no reason to be in a militia if you don't have an enemy. There is no reason to train full combat skills if you don't fear something. There is no reason to go to a shooting academy if you have no one to shoot. I can not run my constitutionalists expert blog if I can't make someone be the badguy. There can be no EXPERTS unless there is an opposer. Yin to the Yang

You must be convinced that the invisible army of black helicopters and armor clad swat teams are standing by for orders to impose martial law so you will shell hundreds $$ to go to the ultimate ninja and pirate repelling school, located in the most populated coast on earth, on a whole 10 acres, where in one weekend you shall become what it takes Navy Seals years to learn and since you will be fighting the hoard of khaki wearing penny loafered shoed briefcase toters with their evil designer eyeglasses and not farming you must buy everything to eat for a year and my 1k calorie battle pack dehydrated snail guts are the best source of protein known on this side of the milkyway galaxy you need at least $400... I mean 6 months worth for each member of your beloved ones that must survive the coming apocalypse in which couches will soon be banned by the reigning dictators that have already seized mind control of the countries lawyers and weathermen. Thank goodness for you I have just what you need on sale, just type in this code.

Or you can get with the program (not the NatGeo program) and prepare seriously without hype and drama looking at international to local threats in a serious manner and getting things you will use under the well touted COMOLLIN program and buy sensibly. There are purchases you may have that will be on the fringe of society but thats what makes us different anyway. And if I'm so dang different then why is this stuff out of stock all the time?

Markets go up, they go down, people act stupid, they act out and nature well she just happens. If this everyone is sooo smart then why do they run still need my money today when they had out all figured out years ago? Topics on websites like this well it makes for mind provoking thought and there are some things in there that you should do as much as possible anyway but thats about as far as I would carry it.

just-- appears to agree but concerned because author may just be doing a sales pitch.

(another copy and paste) (by the way, from his comment about ME, you all know.... no need to come to my house if the shtf!!)

we'll see how others vote! folks, if you read the post, and can say, xxx is correct or yyy is BS that would help us know your feelings. that is one thing i respect about author's article is that it has many parts and it will be easy to
track and see how right he was in each area!!

I agree with everything he says about being prepared. Stocking food, seeds, supplies, solar, fuel everything. I have never been one for making time line based predictions about when TSHTF will happen or exactly how. My opinion is that as soon as someone starts making hard and fast time line predictions you are inviting problems. I have seen it time and time again, we all have. "IT"S gonna go to crap before the end of the summer" then summer comes and goes and nothing happens. Then all the new folks who bought into the snake oil salesman pitch and bought like they had a purpose are burnt out and feel stupid that they prepped so hard and nothing happened. Articles like that, though I agree with much of what was said simply come across as fear mongering to me. Then you have a bunch of folks who rather than being taught and mentored that survivalism or "prepping" if you wanna go there is a lifestyle not a collection of supplies. Personally im kinda sick and tired of getting newsmax emails with "dire warnings" and "this video banned by the DHS" headings that after giving you a slick 10min pitch about how food may be in short supply next year offer to sell you a years supply of freeze dried food for $7,500. A years supply by the way that is 30% soup and pasta based and has a average daily calorie content of 1600.. Yeah food may be hard to come by in the not to distant future, and yes I agree we should all be stocking as much as we think we can and then 50% more. But im about fed up with all the sales pitches.. and in all fairness the article was better on info and less on the pitch than most I have heard so at the end of the day maybe im just being too sensitive about it, maybe im just in a crappy mood.. LOL

A reason to prepare?

Internationally, there are so many possible triggers of interrupting "normal" life they are too many to name.

Nationally, are almost as many as above.

Locally:

-we have a sorry grid system that is in need of repair and causes power to "blink" often.
-severe drought this summer, that came REAL close to going without water supply.
-every winter may be a chance of snow or ice.
-every spring may be a chance of high winds, hail, or tornadoes.
-and almost a year to this day, last year they were battling fires that came within .5 mi of one of my caches and 5 mi within some of my family and I was watching for hotspots and loading up family members to leave their house.

I have all the reasons I need, to want to prepare. And for the care of me and my family all the reasons I should prepare.

I agree with Justanothergunnut about time line based predictions and when the so called experts state one and then are wrong. but, my real world, teethclenching, butt puckering, time line comes every spring/winter living through heavy snowfall, 6 inches of ice or an F4 tornado.
